X-Men ’97 Producers Tease the Return of a Fallen Fan Favorite
The Gambit Conundrum
Alright, fellow mutant enthusiasts! Gather around because we’ve got some tantalizing tidbits from the upcoming season of X-Men ’97. The first teaser for season 2 dropped, and boy, is there a hefty serving of emotional baggage for Gambit fans!
Rogue’s Sadness
If you’re a fan of the Ragin’ Cajun himself, Gambit, then prepare your tissues. Our favorite Southern belle, Rogue, is seen feeling blue without her beloved Gambit. But will he make a glorious return like a phoenix from the ashes? Spoiler alert: the world is still waiting.
Producers Playing It Coy
The writing team, led by Eric and Julia Lewald, are keeping their cards close to their chests (pun intended!). They’re not outright confirming Gambit’s return, but there’s a whisper of hope! Season 1 left us with a tantalizing post-credit scene featuring Apocalypse fiddling with one of Gambit’s cards and lamenting on “So much death.” Could this be a hint towards his comeback?
Following the Breadcrumbs
When pressed for answers, Julia cheekily said, “Let’s not get too specific, but hey, thanks for picking up on those breadcrumbs!” Meanwhile, Eric has called on fans to follow those breadcrumbs. So where do these crumbs lead? To the land of the dead, apparently!
The Blood of Apocalypse
In the legendary 2006 arc, Blood of Apocalypse, Gambit had a little chat with none other than the immortal big bad, Apocalypse. Post-M-Day, when the Scarlet Witch ’s magic took a vacation, Gambit points his poker face at Apocalypse, hoping he can resuscitate their mutant pals. But first, he becomes the Horseman of Death, with the condition that Apocalypse doesn’t mess with his noggin!
Apocalypse and His Horsemen
Now, for those who have been hiding under a rock, Apocalypse has a pattern. He loves to recruit from the heroes’ club! Take Archangel, for instance, who was once a good guy until he was upgraded to the Angel of Death. Other former heroes who’ve ridden with the dark side include Wolverine, Storm, and even Professor X! Talk about a dramatic career move!
The Gambit Sacrifice
In what can only be described as a heroic but tragic move, Gambit threw down his life to defeat the Omega Sentinel in season 1. Let me tell you, folks, there was a hefty death toll before his valiant sacrifice. He put a halt to what would have been an even worse catastrophe!
What’s Next for X-Men?
As we peek into season 2, it’s all about Apocalypse, switching between Ancient Egypt, where he started his villainous career as En Sabah Nur, and a dark future where he holds the world in a chokehold. With the X-Men thrust into a multi-timeline battle, they’ll be scratching together the resources they need. If following those breadcrumbs means snagging Gambit back, you can bet your bottom dollar fans would leap at the chance!
