Why Peacemaker Season 2 Nails the Multiverse
The Best Universe Ever?
So, Peacemaker’s back in action, and boy, has he stumbled into a universe that could make even the grumpiest person crack a smile! Chris Smith, the lovable goofball we all know and love, describes this alternate reality as the “Best. Universe. Ever.” And honestly, who wouldn’t agree when you have a cheering crowd and… well, let’s just say some interesting fan interactions going on?
A Different Kind of Dad!
Now, here’s the kicker—Chris’s dad, Auggie, is a total sweetheart in this universe! Unlike the vile, white supremacist he’s used to, alternate Auggie is all sunshine and rainbows, acting like a dad of the year instead of a monster that makes you question humanity. Did I mention that his brother Keith is alive and way cooler? Talk about a family reunion!
Not Your Average Multiverse Trip
Instead of tossing in cameos like confetti at a party, Peacemaker uses its multiverse twist to dive deep into Chris’s development. Think of it as a therapy retreat where Chris realizes that he’s actually not the worst person ever. Themes of redemption don’t just pop out—much like we do at the end of a long Netflix binge—they’re woven into the fabric of this alternate universe.
Learning Responsibility (with a Twist)
Let’s not forget our good ol’ buddy Spider-Man, who also had his multiverse shenanigans with lessons about responsibility. But in typical fashion, some multiverse stories get lost in the star-studded cameos. (I mean, did we really need to see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield elbowing their way through?)
Chris’s Humble Beginnings
Remember Chris from The Suicide Squad? Yeah, he was that “macho man” who thought peace was worth killing for. Pretty ironic, huh? He was more obsessed with his ego than anything else. Fast forward to Peacemaker season one, and we see his transformation from disaster to… well, still a disaster but with a heart.
Augie’s Shadow
Despite Chris’s progress, Auggie, the KKK mastermind, left some serious scars. While Chris’s rise to the good side is uplifting, the baggage he carries is heavy. He’s not just dancing around like it’s all rainbows and butterflies; there are consequences and a whole lot of messy history.
Escape or Growth?
This new universe offers Chris a chance at a fresh start, maybe too fresh. He wants to be a great person and leave behind all the chaos he’s caused—but what kind of hero would he be if everything was perfectly peachy? Spoiler alert: an incredibly boring one.
Facing the Music
Gunn’s storyline doesn’t let Chris off easy. Already, hints are being dropped that the alternate Chris has his own share of chaos brewing. Just because this world seems better doesn’t mean it’s all gumdrops and lollipops.
What Lies Ahead?
We’re just halfway through the season, so there’s plenty of storytelling left to unravel. But one thing’s for sure: James Gunn is crafting an engaging multiverse narrative that makes you think. Fingers crossed that other creators catch on and follow suit!
