Zorro/Django: We Need to Make Antonio Banderas and Jamie Foxx Happen
Calling All Action Fans!
Picture this: Django strutting across a dusty plantation with the swagger of a man who knows he’s about to kick some serious butt. That’s right! In Quentin Tarantino’s classic flick, Django Unchained, our hero Django confronts the notorious Big John Brittle, and BOOM! A bullet later, and Big John’s just a memory. Cue the dramatic line: “I like the way you die, boy.” Mic drop!
Django’s Adventures Continue!
So, Django didn’t meet his end; instead, he took a little detour through comic book land! Back in 2013, DC Comics gave us a taste of Django’s world, and by 2015, we saw him teaming up with none other than the legendary Zorro in a comic series that had fans buzzing. And hold onto your hats, folks, because now that comic is on the verge of becoming a movie! Yes, you heard that right. We might soon see both Jamie Foxx and Antonio Banderas back in their iconic roles!
The Return of Our Favorite Heroes
Jamie Foxx, who rocked the role of Django in 2012 after stepping into shoes originally meant for Will Smith, has been lying low since then. But fear not! In true Tarantino fashion, Django Unchained harnesses the wild spirit of Spaghetti Westerns while turning history on its head. With epic cinematography, tongue-in-cheek humor, and some heavy-duty drama, this film has everything a good Tarantino movie requires—well, except for those awkward moments where he decides to act!
Enter Zorro
Now let’s talk Zorro. Antonio Banderas brought this masked hero to life in two major films: the fantastic The Mask of Zorro and its less-than-stellar sequel, The Legend of Zorro. Despite the sequel’s hiccups, the fiery chemistry between Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones kept our hearts racing. Oh, the romance!
Could Django and Zorro Unite?
So, what’s cooking with Django/Zorro? Well, the comic written by Tarantino and Matt Wagner teams up Django with a new Zorro, but this time it’s not Alejandro Murrieta—it’s the original Zorro, Don Diego de la Vega. Can you feel the excitement? It totally blends pulp action with epic storytelling!
Let’s Make It Happen!
While we might need to stretch our imaginations just a tad to make this new Zorro work with Django, Brian Helgeland—a writer known for classics like LA Confidential—is on board, so I’m optimistic! If this is what it takes to bring back Foxx with his flashy pistols and Banderas with his suave swordplay, sign me up. After all, in the wacky world of pulp fiction, anything is possible!
