It’s Spock, But Not As We Know Him: Zachary Quinto Reprises Star Trek Role for Halloween Special

Spock Strikes Back!

In a twist that would make any Trekkie’s heart skip a beat (or maybe two), Zachary Quinto slipped back into his iconic Vulcan shoes for a Halloween-themed episode of Brilliant Minds last night. The actor, known for that infamous pointy-eared half-human, half-Vulcan character from the 2009 Star Trek reboot and its sequels, showcased his flair for the dramatic with a dash of Halloween spirit!

Cosplay Goals: Spock and Uhura Unite!

In the episode titled “The Doctor’s Graveyard,” our beloved Dr. Oliver Wolf (played by Quinto) decided to channel his inner Spock, while his partner-in-crime, Tamberla Perry as Dr. Carol Pierce, suited up as Uhura. Talk about a costume partnership made in space! The duo even teased their awesome looks with some classic Vulcan salute action on Instagram earlier that day.

It’s All About the Easter Eggs!

Showrunner Michael Grassi spilled the beans about this epic costume idea, saying that Quinto was totally on board. “When we pitched it to Zachary, he was over the moon to add this little Easter egg into the mix,” Grassi revealed. And they didn’t stop there—there are a few sneaky Star Trek references hidden throughout the episode, including some funky elevator sounds that will make any fan chuckle!

Prosthetics and Nostalgia

Quinto has always been a fan of his Spock years, and in a 2020 NPR chat, he joked about keeping around “about a dozen” of those iconic prosthetic ears. Apparently, each day of filming needed fresh ears, so he decided to snag a few as keepsakes—he even has one from a scene where Spock was bleeding, complete with speckles of green blood. Now that’s what we call a collector’s item!

The Journey of Brilliant Minds

Now, while Quinto may be amassing a collection of ears, Brilliant Minds is collecting its own accolades! Inspired by Oliver Sacks’ mind-bending books, the show follows Dr. Wolf as he dives into the chaotic realm of neurology, all while juggling his own mental health hurdles. Critics have thrown heaps of praise at Quinto’s sharp portrayal, though season two has seen a teensy dip in ratings.

The Future of Star Trek

Meanwhile, in the ever-expanding universe of Star Trek, whispers of big-budget films have been circulating since Beyond hit theaters in 2016. There’s chatter about a potential fourth installment that would reignite the adventures of Quinto, Pine, and the gang. However, it looks like the space-time continuum is keeping new franchise entries just out of reach for Paramount. So, for now, we can all bask in the glory of seeing Quinto as Spock once again!
