The Witcher Season 4 Is Going to End In a Dark Place

Get Ready for a Dark Turn!

So, we all know The Witcher from Netflix is like a wild ride through a theme park of terrifying monsters, mind-bending magic, and humans who are arguably scarier than the beasts themselves (seriously, have you met the Witchers?). But up until now, our hero Geralt of Rivia has managed to come out of most messes with his rugged charm intact, often leaving us with a shred of hope at the end of each season. Well, hold onto your swords, folks, because season 4 is about to throw us into the depths of darkness!

The Stakes Are Higher Than Ever

After wrapping up filming for the show’s fifth season, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich had a heart-to-heart with IGN. Spoiler alert: it’s not all sunshine and rainbows moving forward. The characters are going to face challenges that just can’t be brushed aside in a quick hour—this isn’t a sitcom!

The Trio Is Splitting Up

The last we saw of our fearless trio, they were scattered across the Continent, each with their own battles to fight. Geralt (Henry Cavill, soon to be Liam Hemsworth—gasp!) is on a manhunt for the missing Princess Cirilla of Cintra. Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) has taken up the noble cause of rallying the sorceresses of Aretuza to combat the dark sorcerer Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), and Ciri? She’s off gallivanting under the alias of Falka, mingling with a group of thieving rascals known as The Rats.

Get Those Tissues Ready

Hissrich mentions that this split in the storyline is totally by design, somberly echoing the events of the books. Expect plenty of emotional gut punches as we trek through these dark alleys of tragedy.

A Grim Finale for Season 4

Unlike previous seasons that concluded on a high note—a little family reunion here, a heartfelt hug there—season 4 is opting for a much darker send-off. Hissrich hinted that it may leave us feeling a little worse for wear, as everything spirals downward. Who knew we would become emotional wrecks from a high fantasy show?

Ciri’s New Adversary

And let’s talk about Ciri and her next big hurdle: enter Leo Bonhart (Sharlto Copley), the ultimate bad guy who isn’t just a thorn in her side; he’s more like a whole prickly bush. In the next phase of Ciri’s saga, things will get grim downright spaghetti-western style as she witnesses some brutal happenings that put her through the emotional wringer. Can this girl ever catch a break? We just want her to have one normal day!

Mark Your Calendars!

Brace yourselves, my fellow fans! The Witcher season 4 is set to premiere on October 30 on Netflix, and it promises to be one heck of a rollercoaster ride. Just don’t forget your tissue box; it’s going to be a bumpy, dark ride!
