The Walking Dead’s Longest Beef Is Finally Coming to an End
Revenge Served Cold: Maggie vs. Negan
For ages, Maggie Rhee has been on a quest for vengeance against Negan Smith in The Walking Dead. After what feels like eternity, it looks like the upcoming third season of Dead City will finally see these two bury the hatchet—or at least try to, considering the whole iconic murder of her hubby Glenn still leaves a bad taste in her mouth.
The Beef is Real!
In a recent chinwag with EW, our favorite duo, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, spilled the beans about the end of this long-standing feud. Spoiler alert: their relationship is about to get a bit of a makeover! Despite the rocky alliance that formed over the previous two seasons, Maggie’s simmering rage towards Negan post-Glenn’s death has often led to some intense face-offs. But guess what? The creators of Dead City are finally nudging Maggie toward closure. Seriously, it’s about time!
Time to Move On?
Jeffrey chimes in, saying they needed to shake things up. “We needed this relationship to move on between Maggie and Negan,” he said. “And I was desperate for it. He kept saving her and her kid, but the hatred was real!” It sounds like everyone involved is ready to leave the drama behind. Who knew a dusty baseball bat could cause so much stress?
From Hate to Friends?
Cohan is optimistic as she says, “It’s the biggest turning of a new leaf for Maggie and Negan ever. They’re actually going to work together this time!” Wow, talk about a plot twist! It seems this season is all about unexpected friendships, not just splattering zombies.
The Power of Smiles?
Jeffrey also shared a shocker from filming this season’s premiere: seeing Maggie smile! “It was the first time she didn’t threaten my life, and let me tell you, it was a pleasant change,” he said. Who knew the apocalypse could include moments of joy?
Maggie’s New Approach
Maggie is finally stepping away from her fierce “I’m gonna kill you!” attitude to a more thoughtful “I need your help” approach when it comes to Negan. Talk about growth! Cohan explains it’s all about healing for both of them, and learning to communicate…without the whole ‘stab you’ thing. We’re rooting for her!
A Twist in Reality?
And if that wasn’t enough, season 3 will also throw in an episode that’s set in an alternate reality. Expect guest appearances from Aimee Garcia and Jimmi Simpson, who will give us a glimpse of how things might differ for Maggie and Negan had they made different choices. Because who doesn’t love a good multiverse?
