The Orville’s Unlikely Journey
Ever since the iconic
Star Trek made a comeback in 2009 with the Kelvin timeline, we’ve seen some ups and downs in the franchise. But you know what? The real unexpected gem didn’t even come from the big wigs at Paramount. Instead, we got
The Orville, created by none other than Seth MacFarlane. This delightful space romp pays homage to its Trek predecessors like
The Original Series and
The Next Generation. Initially, the first season was a bit like a toddler learning to walk—wobbly at best! But then, it found its groove and bam! The next two seasons were nothing short of amazing, winning over the hearts of Trekkies everywhere.
A Series Worth the Buzz
If you’ve been living under a rock, or perhaps on a deserted moon, let me enlighten you: many fans argue that
The Orville is actually the finest
Star Trek series to grace our screens in modern times. It’s downright tragic, then, that it’s been four long years since
The Orville: New Horizons made its debut and we’re still waiting for the much-anticipated fourth season. But don’t lose hope just yet—interest in creating Season 4 hasn’t withered away.
Seth Spills the Beans
In a recent chat with some folks at THR, Seth himself revealed, “Okay, folks, I have to confess: the scripts for Season 4 are all written. Yep, all ten of them!” But—there’s always a but, right?—the issue lies in finding the time to make it happen. Seth goes on, “It’s all about when I can dedicate my year to this project without getting sidetracked by the million other things on my plate. But once we kick it off, we’ll be ready to rock and roll!”
Crew Shenanigans in the 25th Century
For those who need a refresher,
The Orville takes place in the 25th century and follows the hilarious and adventurous exploits of a spaceship crew exploring uncharted territories. True to the roots of
Trek, they often find themselves navigating through political conundrums and ethical quagmires. And leading the charge is Captain Ed Mercer, played by our pal Seth. He’s a captain who’s trying to be all suave and competent while also juggling the quirks and quibbles of his crew—including his ex-wife Commander Kelly Grayson (played by the fabulous Adrianne Palicki).
The Wait Continues
The third season launched on Hulu and wowza! It received rave reviews, especially after the Disney-Fox merger. But since that emotional finale aired in 2022, fans have been left scrolling through social media feeds, desperately waiting for the next installment. Here’s hoping that Seth can squeeze Season 4 into his busy calendar soon! But let’s be real—how many cigarettes could Bortus smoke while we all wait?
