The Boys Season 5 Episode 6 Review: Everything Ends
Everything Comes to a Climax
Hey there, fellow kryptonite enthusiasts! So, if you’ve been hanging on my every review for the glorious yet wacky world of The Boys, you’ll probably know that I’ve been riding the struggle bus with this final season. It kicked off with a bang, but recent episodes? Well, they felt less like a thrilling saga and more like a geeky online fan fiction. Seriously, it’s like everyone was just running in circles in this gigantic superhero chess game!
Enter The Legend!
In the latest episode (yes, we’re talking about episode 6), we see The Legend (played by the ever-charismatic Paul Reiser) make a grand return to assist our beloved Boys! They’re on the hunt for the elusive Bombsight (that’s Mason Dye, folks) who pops up just when his sweet old lady, Golden Geisha, is kidnapped from her peaceful retirement home. Talk about a soap opera twist! But wait, it gets juicier—Bombsight’s been sitting on the V1 everyone’s been itching for, trying to convince Geisha to hang out forever. Spoiler alert: she’s not that keen on eternal life. Enter Soldier Boy, who convinces Bombsight to trade his powers for a taste of mortality. And bam! The drama unfolds as Homelander gets his hands on that precious dose.
Sweet Surprises!
Now, don’t get me wrong, while the main plot sounds wild, there’s enough heartwarming tidbits sprinkled throughout to keep things interesting! I was absolutely thrilled to see Karen Fukuhara get some real screen time here. She’s not just the one-liner queen anymore! When Kimiko (that’s her, folks) timidly expresses her dislike for offing elderly folk, Butcher actually shows some humanity. Yes, you read that right! It’s a rare moment of kindness from him.
Mushy-Love and Real Talk
And let’s not forget the budding romance between Kimiko and Frenchie! This episode had us all feeling the feels as we see their love story reflect Bombsight’s and Geisha’s turmoil. Spoiler alert again: nobody wants to live forever. As painful as it is to know everything comes to an end, even Homelander gets slapped with some harsh truths! The Legend drops a line that’s both chilling and oddly relatable: “I’m not scared of you. I feel for you. You’re a fucking whack job, but that’s talent!” Ah, poetic, isn’t it?
Quality Moments with Annie and Hughie
Let’s give a shout out to Annie and Hughie as they whip up a plan to take down the big bad Homelander with some virus magic. Their pity for Firecracker—the character who, let’s be honest, was a trainwreck but had a heart once—was a solid callback showing some depth in this otherwise chaotic season. Even in darkness, there’s gotta be a flicker of light, right?
Poisoned Fish and The Deep’s Dilemma
Now let’s dive into the deep end with The Deep’s subplot. It’s a riot! After filming a PSA about Vought’s pipeline, he’s sent spiraling into dramatic chaos when he discovers the “fish holocaust” that takes place afterward. There’s a hilarious scene where he fervently tries to resuscitate an oil-drenched fish named Jeremy as if he’s the king of the sea. Honestly, any of Chace Crawford’s marine encounters should be framed and placed in a prestigious goofy museum.
Soldier Boy’s Inner Turmoil
And now, it’s time to tackle the soldierly beef between Soldier Boy and Bombsight. We get just enough backstory to tease us into wanting more—maybe setting up for the upcoming prequel series, Vought Rising? It’s a clever move, but the connection sometimes feels a little patchy. Soldier Boy’s emotional rollercoaster, especially when he swings back to Homelander’s side, is frustrating—but hey, that’s just his chaotic charisma peak, right?
Sister Sage and the Plot Twists
In the middle of this superhero soap opera, we can’t forget Sister Sage and her not-so-brilliant schemes. Her manipulations are met with epic fails, making us question if her superpower is just… being useless? Good luck with that strategy, Butcher!
Looking Ahead
With only two episodes left, the stakes are higher than ever. Can they find another way to knock Homelander off his throne? Fingers crossed! As always, expect new episodes to drop on Wednesdays for your binging pleasure on Prime Video!
