The 1990s saw Batman Annual #14 redefine our boy Harvey’s backstory, showcasing him as a decent chap who had a dark side—one developed from his abusive father, Christopher. Picture this: an alcoholic dad flipping a coin with his son, where tails means freedom and heads means a good ol’ whack. Spoiler alert: It was a trick coin! Yep, Harvey never stood a chance. Fast forward to the acid attack, and our boy Harvey has some revenge thoughts brewing – and he visits his dad, laying down the same twisted game! Talk about a family reunion!

Rethinking the Dad Role

In 1995, the character of Christopher Dent got some love again in Batman: Two-Face. But believe it or not, after that, he vanished! It wasn’t until 2022 that we got to see another glimpse of Harvey’s childhood with a new spin in Batman: One Bad Day – Two-Face. Here, we find out that his dad has taken on a shiny new identity as a wealthy politician—Harvey Dent, Sr.—who plays the part of the staunch philanthropist while hiding his monstrous behavior. Yikes!
