Superman Soars into the Future

So, Superman is still doing his superhero thing at the theaters and just popped up on HBO Max! But guess what? Our very own cinematic wizard, James Gunn, is already cooking up something spicy for the sequel. He’s teasing something called Man of Tomorrow, and the buzz is real! This guy even posted a pic of the script on Instagram. Spoiler alert: the cover features an old-school drawing of a brain. Yes, folks, a brain! Talk about cerebral entertainment!

Brainiac: The Villain We’ve All Been Waiting For

Here’s the kicker: that brainy cover is dropping hints that we might finally get to meet the notorious DC villain, Brainiac! This dude has been on superhero fans’ wish lists for ages. First popping up in Action Comics #242 (thanks, Otto Binder and Al Plastino!), Brainiac started as a classic baddie who even had a monkey sidekick. I mean, who doesn’t love a villain with a pet monkey? Over the years, though, he evolved into a living computer and has been known to hijack human bodies. Yikes!

A Blast from the Past

What’s really exciting is that Brainiac had a pretty interesting crossover with Lex Luthor in Alan Moore’s brilliant tale, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?. In that storyline, Brainiac finds Luthor frozen in the Antarctic and decides, “Hey, let’s team up!” This makes one wonder if Gunn is pulling some strings from this iconic comic for his upcoming movie. With title references like that, fans are in for a treat!

The Villain That Hollywood Forgot

Now, if Gunn serves up Brainiac, he’ll be breaking a long-standing tradition in Superman flicks since the days of Christopher Reeve. Lex Luthor has been the top dog of villainy since the 1940s, overshadowing Brainiac like he’s a bad batch of leftover pizza.

Fun fact: Richard Donner originally wanted Brainiac to be the baddie in the third Superman movie, but producers had other ideas. Instead, we got a Luthor-inspired knockoff that involved a wayward computer. And don’t get me started on Bryan Singer’s plans for Superman Returns — an alien invader that *might* have been Brainiac? Epic missed chances!

Why We Need Brainiac Now

There’s a reason filmmakers keep coming back to Brainiac. This guy is visually captivating—who doesn’t want to see cities shrink and get bottled up for future snooping? Plus, he’s not just a brain behind a screen; he packs a punch with constantly upgraded physical forms. Bring on the brawn!

Gunn to the Rescue!

But can anyone truly make Brainiac work on the big screen? If there’s a person to crack this conundrum, it’s James Gunn. Seriously, this guy transformed Peacemaker from a nobody into a fan-favorite with deep emotional layers. If he can do that, then just imagine what he could do with Brainiac!

Mark Your Calendars!

Get your calendars out, folks! Man of Tomorrow is set to swing into theaters in 2027. Who’s excited? We are!
