The Skywalker Saga Will Keep Going, Whether We Like It or Not!
The Saga Continues
Looks like Disney isn’t done with the Skywalker Saga just yet! After what feels like a never-ending saga of its own, Lucasfilm has decided to keep the Skywalker story alive on the big screen. They’ve finally found a director! Say hello to Jon Watts, the guy behind Cop Car and Spider-Man: Homecoming, who has been given the reins for a fresh new trilogy!
Who’s Writing This Epic Tale?
And, what’s that? Simon Kinberg, the genius behind films like XXX: State of the Union and Jumper, will be weaving the tales! These two have dipped their toes in the Star Wars pool before, with Watts helping to create Skeleton Crew, while Kinberg worked on Rebels. The big bosses at Disney haven’t given the final thumbs up for the new trilogy yet, but rumor has it that Rey’s adventures will continue after The Rise of Skywalker.
Will Fans Care?
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Some fans might be scratching their heads about this—after all, enthusiasm waned pretty significantly after The Rise of Skywalker. But fear not! Andor dropped onto Disney+ and changed the game, proving that there’s still a chance for fresh, exciting stories that don’t involve a million lightsaber duels. Can you believe it?
New Faces and Projects
Meanwhile, Dave Filoni is now at the helm as Lucasfilm’s President and Chief Creative Officer, rubbing his hands together with all sorts of plans! A movie featuring everyone’s favorite Mandalorian and his adorable green pal, Grogu, also hit theaters, but it didn’t exactly light up the box office. Next up, we can expect Starfighter, a standalone flick directed by Shawn Levy that’s all set to land in theaters next year. It promises some Ryan Gosling charm, so who’s not excited for that?
Skywalker By Name, Not By Blood
So, even though Lucasfilm is trying to keep the Skywalker name out there, the bloodline’s taken a hit since Ben Solo (played by Adam Driver) decided to leave the stage at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. But don’t worry—Rey took up the Skywalker name right before the credits rolled, keeping the legacy alive in an oh-so-symbolic way! Driver even tried to get back in the saddle for a new movie called The Hunt for Ben Solo, but, surprise, surprise, Lucasfilm couldn’t get Disney’s stamp of approval.
What Else Is Cooking?
Since The Rise of Skywalker graced our screens in 2019, Lucasfilm has been tinkering around with a bunch of new Star Wars projects. We heard whispers of movies from Marvel’s Kevin Feige and a Rogue Squadron flick from Patty Jenkins, as well as a project from Thor: Ragnarok mastermind Taika Waititi. Unfortunately, they all seem to have gotten lost in the development galaxy, never to be seen again. And let’s not even start on the trilogies from The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson—those also drifted into the ether!
