Ryan Reynolds: The Villain We Didn’t See Coming

Hold onto your hats—Ryan Reynolds is about to make a deliciously wicked turn! Yep, you heard that right. The charming Canadian heartthrob is trading in his hero cape for some villainous flair in a brand-new live-action adaptation of the Eloise children’s books. Talk about a plot twist!

A Long Time Since He Played Bad

So, here’s the funny thing: it seems like eons since Reynolds last embraced the dark side. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but his last villainous gig was back in 2014 when he donned the hat of a serial killer in the dark comedy, The Voices. Sure, he was somewhat sympathetic—but let’s not fool ourselves, he was still a killer!

From Gilmore Girls to Eloise

Taking the reins on this rascally project is none other than Amy Sherman-Palladino, the genius behind Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Known for her clever dialogue and rapid-fire stories, she’s probably the perfect fit to bring Eloise’s iconic mischief to life. And guess what? Reynolds isn’t just acting; he’s also producing! Go figure—more reasons to love this chap!

A New Villain on the Block

Now, here’s a plot twist: the classic Eloise books, written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight back in the 1950s, don’t actually have a villain for our dear Ryan to play. But fear not! Amy is crafting a brand new baddie just for him. Oh boy, I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble he’ll stir up alongside newcomer Mae Schenk, who’ll be portraying the titular character.

More Than Just a Book Adaptation

This project is branded a “wholly original adventure,” which suggests we’re in for a fun ride rather than a strict page-to-screen adaptation. For the uninitiated, the original series has four enchanting stories: Eloise: A Book for Precocious Grown-ups, Eloise in Paris, Eloise at Christmastime, and Eloise in Moscow. And don’t forget about her wacky life in the Plaza Hotel, complete with a nanny, a pug, and a turtle! Talk about a quirky living situation!

Netflix Has Snagged This Gem

This flick has already found a home with Netflix. In a statement, Hannah Minghella, the head honcho of feature animation and family film at Netflix, shared, “Eloise has been beloved for generations, from her inception in the 1950s to today. No family trip to NYC feels complete without a visit to The Plaza!” She continues, “We’re absolutely thrilled to revive this treasured character with the dynamic duo of Amy and Ryan, in what promises to be a bold, hilarious, and heartfelt experience for families everywhere!” How sweet is that?

When Do We Get to See This?

As of now, we’re still waiting for a release date. However, the cameras are set to roll soon, so that gives us plenty of time to get hyped! And for all you Marvel fans out there wishing for a Reynolds cameo in Avengers: Secret Wars, fret not—he has ample time to don the Deadpool suit again before that flick hits the screens in 2026!
