What’s Up with the Alien?

Welcome back, friends! By now, if you’re watching any DC Comics project, you should be expecting the unexpected. Aliens, weird creatures, you name it! And who better to deliver that delightful chaos than our good buddy, James Gunn? This guy brought broccoli people and even Starro the Conqueror to life! Seriously, what’s next?

Cold Open Confusion

Let’s dive into the fourth episode of Peacemaker, shall we? It kicks off with a bang featuring Auggie Smith and his wacky acquisition of a quantum folding chamber. But wait—who the heck is this mysterious alien making an appearance? It’s a strange, bug-eyed, vaguely birdish creature sporting gray skin and just a blue sash. Talk about a fashion statement! It’s got a steel case in hand that’s about as mysterious as its identity, and guess what? The noises it makes don’t even come with subtitles! What a letdown for us wannabe alien translators!

Rounding Up The Usual Suspects

Now, let’s play the guessing game! DC fans are scratching their heads—what’s the deal with this little critter? One strong contender could be a member of the Reach. These alien conquerors developed the legendary scarab that eventually gets into the hands of Jaime Reyes, a.k.a. the Blue Beetle. James Gunn has been singing the praises of the Blue Beetle movie, but who knows what’s actually canon anymore? A fun sly nod to that film could work!

Is it a Dhorian?

Or could it be a Dhorian? Sure, they usually flaunt pink skin, but those bird/bug vibes are pretty strong. The most known figure from Dhor is Kanjar Ro, a typical low-life villain who dabbles in petty crimes and occasionally gets into serious trouble. I mean, who wouldn’t love a loveable rascal like Kanjar Ro? And that blue sash? Definitely a pass on his fashion vibe. But here’s the thing: the creature’s sorry demeanor doesn’t exactly scream villain.

Mystery of the Astonian

If you’re a fan of Green Lantern comics, you might have déjà vu with this alien’s curious design. Let’s talk about Saint Walker from the Blue Lantern Corps! He’s all about spreading hope, which is a far cry from what we’ve seen so far. Sure, the Peacemaker alien’s head isn’t the same as Walker’s, but with Gunn cooking up a storm, anything could be possible! Plus, the upcoming HBO series Lanterns might have us seeing more eccentric characters. Imagine Saint Walker getting shot by a random redneck—classic Gunn!

A Glazzonion Twist?

Now, we can’t forget the Glazzonions! If Saint Walker seems too peace-loving for Gunn, the infamous Ahtier might be the next best bet. Ahtier bites the dust early on in her introduction, but her resemblance to the Peacemaker alien is uncanny in skin tone and head shape. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, is it a Glazzonion? Or is it the same alien? Only time will tell!

Theories Gone Wild

Let’s get a bit kooky—what if this alien is just like that scary baby from David Lynch’s Eraserhead? I mean, Lynch never did clarify its roots, right? Perhaps he whispered them to Gunn during a late-night brainstorming session. Stranger things have happened in the world of cinema!

As always, you can catch new episodes of Peacemaker season 2 streaming on HBO Max every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET. Don’t miss them!
