The Mighty Luke Cage: Unfinished Business

So, Luke Cage has got some serious business to wrap up! That’s the vibe we’re getting from Mike Colter, the guy who brought our favorite Harlem hero to life in the Netflix series. Picture this: a wrongly accused dude who morphs into a super-strong and invulnerable powerhouse thanks to some… let’s say, “interesting” prison experiments. Talk about a plot twist!

The Last Time We Saw the Hero

Last we checked, Luke wasn’t hanging out solo. He shared the screen with none other than Danny Rand, the Iron Fist himself, and a couple of other big names from the superhero playground, including the ever-so-cool Jessica Jones and the man with no fear, Matt Murdock – a.k.a. Daredevil! Now, Daredevil’s made quite the comeback with Daredevil: Born Again. Plus, Jessica is set to rejoin the fun in season two. Sooooo, where’s Luke in this superhero mashup?

Mike Colter Keeps Us Guessing

Mike Colter was being all mysterious when he visited the fantastic Shawn Stockman on On That Note. When asked about a possible return as Luke Cage, he playfully dodged a direct answer, saying, “I’ve had conversations, and I’ll leave it at that.” Cryptic much? With Daredevil and Jessica making their moves back to the MCU, he hints that things might not be as far-fetched as they seem. A confirmed “yes” would’ve been great, but hey, at least it’s not a flat-out “no.”

A Nod to Black Heroism

During their chit-chat, Colter and Stockman couldn’t help but rave about Luke Cage, a character that stands proud as one of the most celebrated Black superheroes in comic book history! Created in the 1970s by the genius trio of Archie Goodwin, George Tuska, and Roy Thomas, Cage first popped up in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1. Those were the days!

Cage’s Ties to Blaxploitation

Now, let’s talk origins! Luke Cage was birthed from the phenomenon that was the Blaxploitation era, giving him a unique footprint in comic lore, much like Shaft and Superfly but, you know, suitable for all ages—because, comic books! He found his stride battling alongside Iron Fist, which only solidified him as a fan favorite, especially when he got to strut his stuff as an Avenger in the mid-2000s!

Netflix and Luke Cage’s Adaptation

Interestingly, the folks over at Netflix took notice of Bendis’ awesome work on the street-level saga, and boom! We got the Netflix rendition of Luke Cage. The show was on fire, especially the first half of season one. And let’s not forget the epic presence of Mahershala Ali playing the villain Cottonmouth. Who could resist that?

What’s Mike Up To Now?

Even though we haven’t seen Colter as Luke Cage recently, he’s been busy! He’s been winning hearts in the spooky series Evil and stealing the spotlight from Gerard Butler in the action-packed flick Plane. Plus, there’s a sequel in the works! Go, Mike!

Will Luke Return?

Now, if there was ever a prime time for Mike Colter to reclaim his Luke Cage crown, it’s during season two of Daredevil: Born Again. The storyline we’re eyeing? It’s all about Mayor Wilson Fisk declaring war on those masked vigilantes in NYC. Spoiler alert: he doesn’t succeed! And guess who steps up to take the mayor’s office? None other than the Power Man himself, Luke Cage!

Cage Fans Unite!

So, are we going to see Mike Colter make a cheerful comeback as Luke Cage? Your guess is as good as mine, but considering the juicy storyline possibilities, this is one plot twist all fans wouldn’t want to miss. Keep your fingers crossed, friends!

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is set to grace Disney+ on March 4.
