Big News for Sherlock Fans!
Hold onto your deerstalker hats, folks!
Guy Ritchie is making a trip back to the world of our favorite detective, Sherlock Holmes! But before you break out the confetti, pump the brakes—this isn’t for the much-anticipated third film featuring the dapper duo of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Cue the dramatic gasp!
Introducing Young Sherlock
What’s the deal then? Well, Ritchie is getting cozy with a brand new project on Prime Video called
Young Sherlock. This series is set to explore the lesser-known, wild teenage years of the future Great Detective. Based on Andrew Lane’s young adult thrillers, it promises a Sherlock who is raw, untamed, and just a tad rebellious. Picture him diving headfirst into his first case: solving a mind-boggling murder at Oxford University. Spoiler alert: there’s a global conspiracy, a hint of trouble with the law, and some familiar faces like Mycroft Holmes and a not-yet-evil James Moriarty. Sounds like a wild ride, doesn’t it?
Who’s Playing Young Sherlock?
Stepping into the iconic shoes of young Sherlock is none other than
Hero Fiennes Tiffin, known for swooning hearts as Hardin Scott in the
After trilogy and playing baby Voldemort in
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He’s joined by a great lineup, including Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, the legendary Colin Firth, and Hero’s real-life uncle, Joseph Fiennes, who will portray Sherlock’s dad! Talk about a family reunion!
What’s the Vision?
Tiffin spilled the beans on the creative vision for this project. He explains that the team is working to capture the essence of Sherlock before he becomes the genius detective we know and love. “It’s all about getting the measurements right on how much of Sherlock to weave into the story and providing glimpses of who he’s destined to become. After all, in any origin story, it’s essential to see how they evolve into legends,” he told Collider.
And What About Sherlock Holmes 3?
As for the long-awaited
Sherlock Holmes 3? Well, let’s just say that hope is lurking around but it’s feeling a bit dusty. It’s been over a decade, and while RDJ has been busy saving the universe with Marvel, it seems likes it might be time to let that ship sail. The original Ritchie films burst onto the scene when a certain BBC show with Benedict Cumberbatch was all the rage, creating a perfect storm of Holmes fever. Alas, that fervor has simmered down considerably since then. (Sorry, but we’re not counting that CBS procedural or the CW series where Sherlock could be a dad!)
The Return of Young Sherlock
Mark your calendars, people!
Young Sherlock is set to drop on
Prime Video in 2026. Who knows, it might just breathe new life into the tales of this legendary sleuth! Stay tuned!
