Fallout: Todd Howard Teases New Factions and Locations for Season 3
Exploring the Fallout Universe
Picture this: you’re cruising through a post-apocalyptic United States, and it’s not just about dodging supermutants and rad roaches. Between the main games, expansions, and the Fallout TV series streaming on your device of choice, you’ve got a map that’s practically begging for a road trip. With so many iconic spots like the New California Republic and New Vegas, it’s about time Fallout season 3 tossed some new pins onto the irradiated map!
The Season 2 Cliffhanger
As we wrapped up season 2, our scaly buddy, the Ghoul, and his not-so-welcome sidekick—an AI version of Robert House—stumble upon a super-secret Vault in New Vegas. Why? They’re on a heart-tugging mission to unearth the frozen forms of the Ghoul’s wife, Barb, and daughter, Janet. But plot twist! Instead of finding them, what does he get? An empty cryopod and a postcard. The postcard is a shout-out to Colorado—a clue that Barb and Janet have made a daring escape to the Rocky Mountains! Cue the dramatic music.
Colorado: The Mysterious Blank Slate
Now, while Colorado chimes in as a part of the Fallout state lore before the bombs dropped, it remains an enigma in the post-War Wasteland saga. Todd Howard, the big cheese at Bethesda Game Studios, spills that this uncharted territory is precisely why they’re teasing it. What’s the big idea? Well, Todd says every season should trek to new ground.
The Journey to Colorado and Beyond
“We really want to take you to new places,” shares Todd like the enthusiastic tour guide we didn’t know we needed. “Sure, there’s a journey to Colorado, but hey, we might take a few detours.” And if there’s one thing the Wasteland teaches us, it’s that adventures are never straightforward—think highway rest stops filled with trouble, aka the classic ‘get sidetracked by nonsense’ scenario. Seriously, who knows what kind of chaos awaits during the 750-mile trek from Las Vegas to Denver?
What to Expect in Season 3
Walton Goggins, the voice of our Ghoul, adds his two caps to the discussion. “So many wild things could happen once that camera cuts. Who knows if we’ll actually make it to Colorado? But whatever unfolds, it’s gonna be epic!”
New Cultures and Factions
Regardless of whether the Ghoul ends up scaling the Rockies or totally taking a wrong turn into a den of Deathclaws, Todd teases that there are loads of new Wasteland communities and cultures waiting for us. “It’s key to explore where the games haven’t gone yet,” he emphasizes. “Who are these new folks? What new factions are innovating their survival skills? Same approach as in the games, baby!”
A Bit of Backstory on Colorado
Fun fact: Colorado was once supposed to be a major player in a never-finished Fallout 3 concept back in 2003. But under Bethesda’s wing since the 2008 hit, we’ve heard whispers and not much else about Wasteland Colorado. Dialogue from Fallout: New Vegas hints that wild dog gangs now rule the Denver streets. So, if the Ghoul’s trusty canine sidekick meets some new furry buddies in season 3? Yeah, we’re totally on board with that!
