Daredevil: Born Again S2 Finale Sets Up the Return of Two Netflix Characters
The Cliffhanger Ending
Well, folks, if you thought things were looking cozy for Matt Murdock at the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, think again! Our favorite blind lawyer is now a public enemy and serving time in prison—yikes! But hey, on the bright side, fans of the Netflix universe got a surprise comeback with the return of everyone’s favorite super strong dude, Luke Cage. Thanks to none other than Mike Colter!
The Misfortunes of Matt Murdock
Now, you might be thinking, ‘What’s the fuss about Matt’s not-so-great day?’ Well, it all ties back to our beloved comic book roots. You see, his exposure as Daredevil and the whole prison thing is ripped straight from the pages of the comics. Enter Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist (yes, that Finn Jones guy), and Kilgrave, aka the Purple Man, played by the ever-charming David Tennant. It’s comic chaos, folks!
The Daring Danny Rand
Let’s spill some more tea. The storyline about Matt getting locked up first popped up in the legendary “The Devil in Cell-Block D.” Here, our hero finds that his secret identity isn’t so secret anymore, thanks to some drama that started way back in 1986. Picture this: a drugged-out Karen Page sells Matt’s name to the big bad, Wilson Fisk. But wait, Fisk keeps his lips sealed for a spell, using Matt’s identity to twist the knife when needed. Classic villain move!
Fast forward, and our buddy, Kingpin, strikes a deal with the FBI, dropping the bomb on Matt’s identity like it’s hot. Surprise! Right at the end of Daredevil #81, Matt finds himself in jail, which is awkward considering he has to share a cell with folks he once prosecuted. Oops.
Chaos in Hell’s Kitchen
Matt’s prison experience isn’t all quiet meditation; it’s more like a superhero reunion with the bad guys, and he’s not getting any help from his buddies. The only ray of hope is Frank Castle (aka The Punisher), aka the guy who loves to remind Matt that half-measures are for amateurs. No kidding, huh?
Meanwhile, Matt’s alter ego is still at large in Hell’s Kitchen, stirring up trouble while he’s behind bars! And when he finally gets out, he insists on donning his red suit to battle this unauthorized ‘Daredevil’ on the rooftops. Plot twist: it’s Danny Rand pretending to be our boy Matt! What a mess!
Welcome Back, Purple Man?
And speaking of returning characters, what about the Purple Man, a.k.a. Zebediah Killgrave? There’s some chatter that David Tennant could be swinging back into Hell’s Kitchen. Fingers crossed, right? Although no leaks have confirmed his comeback yet, the season does tease a possible return, which could fit nicely within the storyline.
After Danny’s little stunt of pretending to be Daredevil, doubts have started swirling. Matt’s superhero persona is out there, but he’s dodging questions like a pro. Instead of pulling a Spider-Man and making a deal with the devil, he’s letting others (cough, the Purple Man’s children) erase his secret identity from everyone’s mind—a wild twist!
In the comic world, Killgrave turns out to have some kids with mind-controlling abilities! When they team up against their dad, they hope to take him down once and for all. Spoiler alert: Daredevil swoops in to save the day, and guess what? The kids help everyone forget Matt’s identity!
Season 3 Hype
But what’s next for our hero? Well, if the writers are looking to bring back the Purple Man in some shape or form, they’ll definitely have their work cut out for them. After all, Killgrave didn’t exactly survive the events of Jessica Jones. So, we’re itching to see how they spin this. Bring back the charm of David Tennant, and we’re in for a treat.
In summary, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again wraps up with a bang, and while we’re excited for what’s next, we’ll definitely be keeping our fingers crossed for a few familiar faces to pop back in. And hey, more Iron Fist can’t hurt either!
