Colin Farrell Keeps It Real About The Penguin Season 2
Colin Farrell: Master of Caution
So, Oz Cobb is not just any player in Gotham’s wild and wacky underworld. This guy knows a thing or two about strategy. He’s the type who doesn’t throw caution to the wind unless he’s got a parachute. Colin Farrell, the man who brought Oz to life in The Batman and the HBO spinoff The Penguin, seems to be singing a similar tune.
Season 2: A Gambler’s Dilemma
When the good folks at ComicBook poked him about the odds of a second season for The Penguin, Farrell was all coy. “Oh, I don’t know,” he said, showcasing that classic Irish charm. Despite admitting to having a “bit of a negativity bias”, he urged fans to tread lightly. “I’d say I’d bet against, but not by much,” he added, keeping it real.
Surprising Reservations
Now, here’s the kicker. While our reviewer at Den of Geek had some mixed feelings about the show, critics were mostly all in on the love train, showering it with praise. Heck, the series even snatched some awards, including an Emmy for the fabulous Cristin Milioti! With The Batman now a three-year-old flick and The Batman Part II still cooking in the oven for another two years, one would think Warner Bros. might want to fill that empty void with a juicy new season.
Storytelling Comes First
However, for Farrell, it’s all about the narrative. He doesn’t see a solid story that would justify another season for Oz Cobb. “I know the big shots are thinking up storylines that could stretch another eight hours,” he explained. But he’s not sure another opportunity like the first season is on the cards. “The death at the end of The Batman and the chaos in Gotham created a sweet little power vacuum for Oz to swoop in and take advantage of. That was perfect for the eight-hour journey we embarked on.”
The State of the DCU
Of course, another roadblock for a potential The Penguin sequel is the current state of the DCU. Remember how The Batman started out in the chaotic world of Snyder’s DCEU? It morphed into a standalone gem! It seems that with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm trying to reboot things, The Batman is enjoying a little bubble of protection as its own separate entity, while The Brave and the Bold takes the lead for the classic Caped Crusader movie.
Farrell’s Wise Perspective
Farrell isn’t losing any sleep over the state of things though. He did drop a little nugget about the future of The Batman to ComicBook, confirming that Part II “will pick up a few weeks after the show wrapped up,” indicating that The Penguin bridges the gap between the two Bat-tastic adventures.
A Safe Bet on Season Two
So, despite his optimism, Farrell thinks the chances of a second season might be slim, “I kind of bet against it, but not by a wide mark,” he concluded. And that cheeky bit of careful consideration makes Farrell the ideal person to play the cunning opportunist, Oz Cobb.
