Bubba8193: First off, the story is completly different from the original PROM NIGHT. The story now revolves around a teenage girl named Donna (Brittany Snow) who is being stalked by an old obsessed teacher who has just escaped from jail. All while at her senior prom. This is the first thing they did wrong with the film. The audience finds out who the killer is in the first scene (literally). So throughout the entire film, there isn't much suspense on who the killer is, or what he wants. The only thing we're waiting to find out is who dies and who lives. They also showed the killer way too much. It made him less creepy and made him seem like a normal guy with an angry expression on his face, rather then a killer with a sinister look.
Is the film scary or not? NOT! Any scene that would make you jump or scream, was followed with you laughing. The film was filled with "fake scares". The stab wounds seemed more like paper cuts. There was no blood. I blame the PG-13 rating for this.
So basically, this has to be one of the worst remakes I've ever seen (it's not even really a remake!)There was no suspense, terror, gore...I wouldn't even call this a horror film. The film was made to attract teens and make money. And based on the weekend estimates, the film came in #1. This means we'll have a great amount of horror films rated PG-13 starting in 2009. Which sucks...
Let's hope there's a Unrated DVD version coming out.
