Lincoln was Spectacular November 19th, 2012 [2:12:37] | | 7/10 |
| Tanman32123: As the title says, This film was spectacular, At times boring as fuck but nothin less of spectacular. Daniel day Lewis does an amazing job with his character as well as all the other actors and actresses.
They stayed true to the actual events and fucking nailed the scripting and writing and so forth.. The boringness would be my only complaint, I wish they showed a little more war Footage, But like I said, They wanted it to be about the politics and how he came about to passing the 13th Amendment rather then making a film about the war.
Great movie, A most see :) |

| cress: What happened to you, Steven Spielberg? You used to be fucking beautiful.
I'm a huge Spielberg fan, but this effort is his most forgettable film ever. Technically, he's still a master of his craft. But not even he can do anything to keep this film from being a long, slow, boring slog. The subject matter is important, yes, but Kushner's screenplay is nothing but speech after speech. Every couple of minutes, it's a long-winded speech by a character. Lincoln has a "story" to tell throughout the film. At one point, a character storms out of the room because he doesn't want to hear another goddamn story. He might as well have been speaking for me. Even quiet, intimate moments between Day-Lewis and Sally Field are illogical speeches. Maybe this would work in a play, but not here Mr. Kushner.
Daniel Day-Lewis is the only reason I could recommend it. Tommy Lee Jones does Tommy Lee Jones, and it is about what you'd expect from that description. If you want to learn about Lincoln, read a book. Your brain will probably absorb the magnitude of Lincoln's actions better, instead of listening to a bunch of pretentious, long-winded diatribes from this film. I want kids to learn about history, and I'm all for visual aides, but this film would bore anyone to tears. |
