cress: I didn't hate this movie, and I had a couple of laughs, but its contrived, nonsensical plot and characterizations were ridiculous at times.
Robert DeNiro and Diane Keaton have been divorced for 15 or so years, but reunite at DeNiro and Susan Sarandon's home for their son's wedding. The "lovey-dovey" aspect the three share is hard to buy, as each plays off each other's whimsical attitudes toward their relationship. DeNiro is only mildly amusing here, as his character is a philandering, recovering alcoholic. Even the priest (Robin Williams) is a former alcoholic. All of this is supposed to be funny, but comes off as a failed attempt at humor by a dumbass screenwriter.
It is interesting seeing all these familiar faces in a film, but the story is a weak 90 minute exercise in generic, contrived "familial" situations.
*the thing that made me laugh out loud was Topher Grace's shirt that said OWLS ARE ASSHOLES. seriously, that was the funniest part of the film.
