cress: PACIFIC RIM is one if the most visually impressive "big" movies in recent memory. The kaiju and jaegar battles are so mind-blowing in their scale and execution, I was giddy like a kid during those scenes. Kudos to ILM (I'm assuming ILM)...you guys are fucking amazing!
It's everything between those scenes that is piss-poor. There are so many cheesy, bad dialogue, cringe-worthy scenes. It's like watching a bad '80s flick, accompanied at times by some bad music. The lead actor is TERRIBLE, as well as the Asian chick. Their storyline and those two carrying it is a giant albatross ariund the neck of this film. The British scientist was terribly written, and annoying. Idris Elba was the only good acting in this film.
Del Toro is an awesome director. He just needs a great script to direct--this film isn't it. PACIFIC RIM is worth a ticket for the FX, just wear a raincoat to the theatre, 'cause your going to be covered in cheese.

Rambo: with one exception,I never thought Del Toro was a good director, his 'hellboy' movies were mediocre at best and everything else he's done was meh...
