GIANT_midget: This film is based in china were a kid called Dre Parker (jerk off smith) moves there with his mum and end up getting bitched slap by a load of kids for getting mouthy when he shouldn’t and after meeting this dirty old man ends up getting taught by Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) a.k.a dirty old man who is Chinese in the film. The martial arts used in this film are there by kung Fu not Karate (that just one of the mistakes in this movie) so it should be called the Kung Fu Kid... this is pretty much Identical the original be sides location and having a younger student and an old man telling a little boy to jacket it for a while in the movie. This film in no way shape or form compares to the 1984 original, if you want to see a great film watch the original then at least you didn’t waste 2 hours of your life on this bad accuse of a re-make... this review has no disrespect towards Jackie Chan the man is great at what he does, what really fucked this film up is will smith money grabbing hand financing it.
|Not the same as the Remake|

bandolero999: The only reason is named the Karate Kid in the States,is because thats the most popular martial arts here. Also people often call martial arts movies karate movies.Overseas is named the Kungfu kid and Wushu Kid.
The story is a bit similar but instead the boy is way younger. It was filmed in Mainland China and it focuses on Wushu. Many practitioners have learned that techique and have made many movies. The most famous is Jet Li,Donnie Yen,Vincent Zhao(the blade).Jackie Chan plays Mr.Miyagis part and trains Jaden Smith. He is one of my favorite actors and teaches him Kung Fu.Yu Ron Guang of Yuen Woo Ping's Iron Monkey has a supporting part and his team of kids have some impressive moves for being so young.Theres also one of the best scenes when Jaden goes to Wu Tang Village to learn the art of the Taoists and learns a couple of their moves. Not a fan of Will Smith at all and yes he even put his son in the movie. The kid trained well and has some good moves.Maybe in the future he'll be an action star who knows.
give it a chance

W0WCraft1: The KUNG-FU Kid is a horrible film. Of course, it's a remake. Not since the remake sham of 2007 with Rob Zombie's Halloween, which I also despised, has a terrible storyline, terrible acting, and pointless extra scenes sprinkled through. The "laziness" part of this review is with the title. In this film, Mr. Miyagi and Will Smith's little un-deserving wanker are doing Kung Fu, instead of Karate.
This is also very, very boring. Watch the original 1984 version instead. It might have some of the same storyline, but at least it has some fun scenes.
