Superman Returns with a Bang

philfilm85: This is simply the best superhero movie since 1978's "Superman Returns" with Chris Reeve. Routh is a perfect 2000s stand-in for Reeve. And Spacey is a better Lex Luthor than Gene Hackman.

alexgi: There was probably no other movie that I looked more forward to than "Superman Returns." It has a great director, some decent talent and the power of some big FX studios. How could they mess this up?
Apparently very easy. All you have to do is add a kid, focus on the boring female character and a very boring villain. Bam, you got yourself a crappy story and terrible comeback for the most powerful superhero of all time.
Superman Returns... and the world wishes he hadn't

nope.com: A passable effort by Bryan Singer and acceptable to only those who wished to see a continuation (albeit barely) of the Dick Donner series with Christopher Reeve. I commend Singer's approach to try to bring back Donner's vision from the 70s... but that's the problem.. it's NOT the 70s anymore.
This film failed to connect with viewers of this decade because it lacked everything needed for a successful action film: Script, Acting, and oh Action... The production and aesthetic of the film is marvelous and you could tell a lot of effort went into translating this to the screen (aside from the budget)
Onto the story, don't think many were happy with the lack of action sequences in the movie. The only notable ones were the plane seq and Superman rescuing Metropolis from "natural" disasters.. One glaring problem.. Supes didn't have any adversary to throw some punches at. Not only that but Brandon Routh gave one of the stiffest performances I've ever seen an actor give as Clark Kent. It only compounds the problem that his Superman was forgettable and dare I say it.. a little creepy not to mention pathetically emo. Honestly why would Superman except possibly Earth 56 Supes (the rapist Superman) spy on Lois outside her house and then cry to his dad in outer space?
Speaking of Lois why was Kate Bosworth even considered since she was only 22 during filming AND this film was supposed to be a continuation of Superman 2 where Margot Kidder's Lois Lane returned in this film... are you kidding me?
I'm gonna wrap it up and say that the kid storyline was horrendous and Lex Luthor was perfectly portrayed as expected by the always reliable Kevin Spacey.
I can only hope the reboot pushes the creative team to look at the great stories and put them all into fruition where no origin is not necessity but the story is where the focus should be.
Superman-the soap opera

Rambo: Anyone who read some comics in his life knows that superman is the most bad ass superhero ever. The first 2 superman movies got that idea and did a good job(although i would skip some of the comic relief scenes)making a movie out of it.Now here comes 'Superman returns' and instead of bringing something original to the franchise and making this a bad ass movie-what do we get?A fucking soap opera about clark kent and lex luthor...lex luthor?again?haven't we had enough of this guy?aren't there any other villains in the comics?
Alas, this 2 hours and a half movie was boring as hell and poorly casted.the script was pathetic and even the special effects were disappointing.
3/10 I just hope the upcoming zack snyder reboot will be better then this.
