The last time we heard about a big screen "Voltron" film was a year ago when Relativity Media announced that it acquired rights to the property and hired Thomas Dean Donnelly (Conan the Barbarian) and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara) to write the script.

NY magazine is reporting that a bidding war has broken out to finance a big screen version of "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," a big-budget re-telling of the legend of the robotic lions and their human pilots.

UTA agency is now representing World Events Productions, who own the US rights to "Voltron," that focuses on a band of five robot-lions (piloted by humans) that combine to form one giant warrior.

Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Richard Suckle (The International) and Steve Alexander have acquired the rights to make a live-action feature based on "Voltron," pushing the project forward after several years in development with the Mark Gordon Company.
