We recently showed you the international trailer for the upcoming "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief." And today we have the longer domestic one, that features lots of new footage. Check it out below.
Plot: Poseidon's son, a 12-year-old boy, sets out on a quest in present-day America to rescue his mother, return Zeus' stolen lightning bolt and prevent a civil war from erupting among the gods. Based on Rick Riordan's best-selling children's novel.
The new movie is directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) and stars Logan Lerman, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd and Rosario Dawson. It is scheduled to hit theaters on February 12th, 2010.

Still don't know what to think. Looks like a kids version of clash of the titans almost. You have a lot of the same monsters and villians but then again so does all of greek mythology

Water-bending. Score. But they were three demi-gods, so who's Zeus's kid and who's Hades's?

Zeus' and Hades' children are not in the 1st book. you first meet Zeus' child at the end of the 2nd book and Hades' 2 children in the 3rd book. there are actually hundreds of demi-gods. (the gods/goddesses sleep with mortals that they like). there just aren't that many children from the big 3 gods, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, because their children tend to be extremely powerful and can cause lots of damage so the big 3 made a truce not to have children. Zeus and Poseidon didn't keep their end of the bargain. Hades didn't break the truce, but his children got into some trouble and, for reasons you can find out, didn't age. Oh and Percy is not 17 in the movie. why would the makers of the movie be so dumb as to do that? he's 17 in the 5th book if i'm correct, but definitely not in the first book.
They could make a great soap-opera with the basis of the greek mythology. I mean, all they do is to screw around and backstabb each other.

Kids look no where near 12 but movie looks really fun
Now accepting the fact that they have Percy at age 17 and if all 5 books are made will be 22 when the prophesy is fulfilled; I can look forward to a movie loosely based on Rick Riordan's book and not the book come to movie. It is also obvious that they have taken pieces from the other books and put it into this one; the hydra, Percy's watch shield, and Persephone to name a few. There are also scenes not in the book - the swimming pool, the roof top and water towers, and the hydra. I have read that Clarisse is not in the movie. Obviously, this is a very different story. I look forward to this movie because of my love for the Percy Jackson book series and can only hope that somewhere I will actually find the story and its wonderful characters. The trailer itself looks incredible and preluding to an exciting, action packed adventure. I believe the movie will be excelent, although not what I was hoping for.
