Problems Could Push "Watchmen" to 2010Posted: September 1st, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
By now most people know that 20th Century Fox has sued Warner Bros for the rights to "Watchmen." Fox originally wanted to have the film completely thrown out, but as of recently, have stated that they would be happy to step in as producers and take a chunk of the profits.
"Watchmen" is scheduled to hit theaters on March 6th, 2009 and because of that, both studios have been itching to go to court as soon as possible. Now, NY Times is reporting that the trial may be pushed back till next year, which could delay the film all the way till 2010.
"The report also outlined conflicting requests for a trial date: as early as next June, if Fox has its way, or April, if Warner prevails."
Even if Warner Bros wins and the trial ends sometime during the summer of 2009, the studio would still need time to launch a successful marketing campaign. So, if I were to guess, there is a good chance that we will see "Watchmen" in March of 2010. Stay tuned.

FOX is looking for trouble from fans... we should give it to them.
FOX has become a disgrace. They had more than enough time to make a movie on Watchman and for them to do this is low. If anything they should give money to this production to include a live action Freighter segment as Snyder wanted and money to allow Snyder to get the lengthy cut he dreams of.
Otherwise FOX needs to really step down amicably & without Prejudice. They don't want Fan backlash at the box office.

Why is everyone so quick to blame all this on Fox? I mean, Warner Bros. had the chance to get the rights and didn't and then made a film they didn't own the rights to. They basically stole from Fox and now everyone is blaming Fox for wanting to take back what is legally theirs... Yeah it's crappy that they want to close the film but it wasn't Warner Bros. to make in the first place. I hope they can come to some agreement that will allow for the movie to show but Warner Bros. isn't innocent by any stretch of the imagination.

No man...Warner didnt steal it. Gordon WAS Fox and he sold the rights to Warner after Fox rejected it NUMEROUS times. This is Fox simply trying to kill their Wolverine competition next year because their box office bombed this summer. They waited to protest so it could kill Warner financially.

It's in the best interest of both parties to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
