Good News for "Watchmen" Fans

Good News for "Watchmen" FansSubmit Comment
By now, everyone has already heard that Fox is trying to prevent Warner Bros from releasing the upcoming $100 million "Watchmen" movie, due to a rights issue. In a recent Variety article, Fox claimed that they would prefer to kill the movie rather than get paid.

As soon as news hit the web, fans went into an uproar, promising to boycott Fox's movies including the upcoming "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Apparently, people are upset that "Watchmen" might never get released and that Fox waited several years to file the lawsuit.

Now, Entertainment Weekly is saying that not everything is quite like it seems. According to a Fox source, the studio has filed its complaint several times before "Watchmen" went into production, but Warner Bros did nothing about it.

"Of course we are concerned about the fans; however, any disappointment from the core fans should not be directed toward Fox," said a studio source. "What we are doing is seeking to enforce our distribution rights to 'Watchmen.' Legal copyright ownership should not just be swept under the rug and ignored."

I know that this lawsuit stuff is a bit boring, but here is something that fans might find interesting: Fox is not looking to stop the movie from being released. If Warner Bros cannot prove that they own the rights to the property, Fox is simply looking to get paid or receive distribution rights. So for now, "Watchmen" will be hitting theaters on March 6th, 2009.

FOX is well aware they can't f*ck with us geeks. Not after we spent our money on the crapfest that was X3, Fantastic Four, Rise of the Silver Surfer, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Daredevil and Elektra.

The fans of Watchmen are just jelious that X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is gunna kick its ass. I dont thing Watchmen looks that good anyway. After being treated to The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, X-Men, X-Men 2, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Superman Returns, Watchmen looks kinda sh*t, in contrast.

Watchmen is not like every other stories about super-heroes ! you better read the book before compare it with those amazing movies like dark knight or spiderman.

Why shouldn't we direct anger at Fox? We've been dying for a film since the 80's, they kept it hostage on a shelf, and now that someone actually HAS the creativity to see the vision through while at the same time making it completely faithful (unlike EVERY Fox adaptation) they kick up a stink. If they get some money great- but I'm closing my eyes to their logo if it appears on the film- they never did jack s**t...and for that I'm totally thankful.

Gotta agree with the last poster. I for one am thankful that Fox never got around to making this film. Thier films are so cookie cutter Hollywood form that its sickening. Sure they have made a few great films like Spider-Man and X-Men but that was because of the director's vision, not because of Fox. All of those director's had final cut which means Fox wasnt aloowed to go in and screw it up. Beyond those few gems, the majoroity of Fox pictures totally suck. Both Fantastic Fours, X-Men 3, Daredevil Etc.. They were all lame!! Warner Brothers is a far better studio and thier films prove that without a single doubt. As for this lawsuit, I am sure Fox will get their paycheck but it will still be WB that gets the majority of earnings and with Hollywood accounting, well lets just say that Fox will get what they deserve which is really next to nothing.

First of all Fox is a joke in tv and film. Second of all WATCHMEN is gonna suck. Its the next 300. Have you watched the preview? Its all in slow motion just like all of 300. Its going to be an hour long movie expanded over two hours just like 300. Im sorry to say but Wolverine is gonna suck too.
