Germany Upset Over Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards"

Germany Upset Over TarantinoSubmit Comment
The Guardian reports that Germany is not too happy with the upcoming Quentin Tarantino-directed "Inglorious Bastards," due to lack of distinction between Germans and Nazis. They are also concerned that the country will be seen as a bunch of barbarians.

The script for the film has leaked onto the internet and features scenes of scalping, disembowelment and swastikas being engraved in foreheads as a group of American Jewish soldiers are airdropped into Nazi-occupied Europe to wreak revenge on the Germans.

A part of the script has Brad Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo Raine, a hillbilly from the mountains of Tennessee, state: "We will be cruel to the Germans and through our cruelty, they will know who we are." He goes on to order his troops to "git me 100 Nazi scalps."

One member of the group, known as "Bear Jew", has a reputation for "bashing Germans' brains in with a baseball bat." He features in at least one scene.

If the script is anything to go by, the film looks likely to be a stomach-churner. Apart from baseball-bat bashing and skin engravings, we see one German officer being shot in the testicles, as well as scalps being peeled "like a banana skin" from others.

This isn't the first time that Germany has struggled with Hollywood. The country was recently involved in a dispute with Tom Cruise's "Valkyrie," worrying that the star's religion may not be appropriate to represent one of their few heroes.

"germany upset" is quite an exaggeration, isn't it? it's just one guy, who goes on for two pages giving spoilers from the script, and who actually seems to be a tarantino fan. all he does is, express his concern, that this mixture of popculture and nazi-history might not work on the screen. no big deal, i think.
