"The Dark Knight" has just surpassed the $400 million mark and it took the film only eighteen days to do so. "Shrek 2," which was the previous record-holder, needed 43 days to accomplish the same task. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" used to be second by reaching the goal in 45 days.
What's more is that "The Dark Knight" has brought in an additional $6.28 million on Monday, climbing to the 8th spot on the all-time domestic earners list. With the way things are going, "Knight" will soon surpass "Spider-Man" ($403.7 million) for the 7th spot.
Internationally, the film has earned an extra $202.5 million, which will keep going up since "Knight" has yet to open in Japan, France, Spain, Russia and Germany.
Let's take a second to compare the film to "Titanic," the biggest earner ever. "The Dark Knight" has taken in $400 million domestically, "Titanic" earned $600 million. Worldwide, "Knight" is currently at $602 million, but "Titanic" brought in three times as much. The film's worldwide take is $1.8 billion.
