"The Golden Compass" Sequel Has It's Opening Scene

Posted: October 16th, 2007 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"The Golden Compass" Sequel Has ItSubmit Comment
A sequel to "The Golden Compass" is definitely on the minds of New Line Cinema, but they will not move forward with it, until the first installment brings in big numbers at the box office. Even though there is currently no guarantee that a sequel will be made, the visual effects wizards at Rhythm & Hues have already completed the opening sequence for it.

Apparently, director Chris Weitz removed the big scene from the final cut of "The Golden Compass," and instead will use it in the beginning of the hoped-for next installment, which may hit theaters in 2009.

The visual-effects house actually worked on about 80 shots for the sequence. "The decision was made to have the movie end slightly earlier than the first book ends, so there's a scene at the end of first book, ... the plans right now I believe are to start the second movie with that scene," said visual-effects producer Gary Nolin. "It's a scene that takes place at the North Pole, [with] the aurora borealis and the sort of the window into the new world."

Golden Compass is an awesome movie. There should definitely be a sequel though because the ending was way to open for there not to be one.

OMG! There absolutely HAS to be a sequel. I'm truely thrilled with the result of the movie. I have read the books and the movie is SO much more than I expected. Love it, think it is brilliant, a must see!!
