"Serenity" Sequel a Reality

Posted: October 4th, 2007 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Serenity" Sequel a RealitySubmit Comment
It seems that news of another "Serenity" movie is always floating around, which seems ridiculous to me, since the film didn't make any money. To be exact, the film earned $39 million in worldwide ticket sales on a $39 million budget. Like I was saying... it didn't make any money. In addition, the show that the film is based on "Firefly," was cancelled after twelve episodes.

Now, Moviehole spoke to Alan Tudyk (actor in the film), who revealed that the "Serenity: Special Edition" DVD has been selling so well, that there are now talks again about doing another movie. "They had to put [the new DVD] out because they've been selling out of the other one and so Universal's like 'So, let's do another one,'" he stated. "And now there's now a chance there's going to be another movie."

Tudyk went on to explain that even if the new film was released straight to DVD, it would still be worthwhile, since DVD sequels have been known to make money.

"Everybody in the Firefly crew and that includes the ones who died in the movie are excited about the prospect of doing another," he added.

I LOVED this series and loved the movie. I can't believe the movie didn't do better(and that the show was canceled so soon!) The writing on the series was wonderful, the character development was so good. I am hoping, fervently, for a second movie, however it's released - theater, DVD, whatever.

I am more than excited by the news there may be another Serenity / Firefly movie. It was the best show on television and still is in my opinion, despite the amazing screw job the good folks at Fox did, and everyone i know who has seen it feels the same. The woderful chemestry between cast members, the writing, and the educational value of learning new and exciting Chinese swear words. You just can't find that in the hip deep reality show crapfest shoveled out by network television these days. So to Joss, Nathan, Alan, Adam, Summer, Gina, Morena, Jewel, Ron, Sean and all the rest, keep flying, even though it's corny it is heartfelt.

Well it's mid 2012 now so I guess the sequel is and was a fantasy. Too bad. I'm watching the 14, yes that's 14 episodes on Netflix and thoroughly enjoy them. Saw Serenity when it came out to theaters, unaware of Firefly, and really enjoyed that too. Unfortunate that so many audiences have such a taste for sh*t that they could not appreciate this excellent series. But these days it's production cost vs profit, and if it's not a cartoon or a reality show it's likely not seeing the light of day. Really very unfortunate both for the actors who fleshed out these characters so well, to us, the fans who fell in love with them. Here's hoping I'll be watching previews one day and be hit with the Serenity sequel. That'd be the one thing that would make me squirm like a child on Christmas eve.
