Two of the hottest properties are still looking for a director, but according to IESB, New Line Cinema has just found their man. Apparently, Len Wiseman, the person behind the "Underworld" franchise has been chosen to helm not only the "Gears of War" adaptation, but also the "Escape from New York" remake.
"Gears of War" is based on a video game and is set on the planet Sera, where a former P.O.W. is civilization's best hope in their fight against the Locust Horde, a race of creatures who emerged from underneath the planet's surface, intent on eliminating humankind. The screenplay was written by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy) and the film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2009.
"Escape from New York" is a remake of John Carpenter's 1981 film, which starred Kurt Russell and was about a condemned criminal Snake Plissken, who is dispatched to the island of Manhattan -- now a maximum security prison -- to rescue the U.S. president. The screenplay was written by Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) and the role of Plissken went to Gerard Butler (300). The film is scheduled to hit theaters some time in 2009.
