David Fincher was planning to direct a new version of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Despite coming close to making it happen, the project eventually fell apart.

Now comes word from "X-Men" director Bryan Singer that he will attempt to make his own version of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," which tells the story of Captain Nemo and the crew of his submarine as they embark on incredible adventures and encounter fantastic sea-life beneath the surface.

"It's my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film," Singer wrote on Instagram about "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." "A story I've wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart."

He went on to explain that this news doesn't mean that he's done with the "X-Men" franchise. "Not abandoning the X-Men universe. Very excited about X-Men: Apocalypse and beyond."

So basically, besides "The Usual Suspects", he's never really done an original idea huh? I mean first he lived off X-Men, than Superman, than he did Valkyrie, but then he does Jack the Giant Slayer and just more X-Men. Now he wants to try and remake another film. Man he is useless.

PS Birthday was the 18th. Was fun. Hope you guys all had a good day as well!

I'm sure it will be as bland and unexciting as all his films.

Singer should be 20,000 leagues under the sea. That’s where he belongs.

Ugh.

When Singer steps away from FX spectacles to focus on relatively smaller thrillers -- The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, Valkyrie -- the results can be...promising, at least.

But his "big blockbuster" movies are vanilla as sh*t. I mean, did anyone see Jack the Giant Slayer? Not a single memorable aspect about, or moment from, that movie.

The opening Nightcrawler sequence from X2 was effective; the Quicksilver sequence from Days of Future Past, cute. But these, too, were fleeting moments from what were otherwise ho-hum movies as a whole.

A 20,000 Leagues adaptation needs that visionary touch—a lasting sense of imagination and weirdly tone. Singer doesn't have that. Never has. Wrong man for that job.
