James Wan Joins "Mortal Kombat" Reboot

James Wan Joins "Mortal Kombat" RebootSubmit Comment
New Line has been trying to get a new "Mortal Kombat" movie off the ground for years. Eventually, the studio settled for a web series that turned out to be successful. And now, there's a push to make the movie again.

Today comes word that "Mortal Kombat" got a much needed boost by hiring James Wan (director of "Furious 7," "The Conjuring," "Insidious") to produce the film. The decision to bring Wan on board was due to the studio wanting "a departure from the mythology" with "darker, brutally real martial arts."

The script is written by Oren Uziel ("Mortal Kombat: Legacy" web series) and Dave Callaham (The Expendables). It centers around a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as "Mortal Kombat."

If you ask me, they should make another live action Mortal Kombat game, and I've said why for a while

@synth

Mortal Kombat Trilogy was the peak of what they could achieve with 2D gameplay, and ironically the last 2 MK games have returned to a similar feel.

@Deaft0ne I know I'm just sayin, since MK Trilogy the technology has become very advanced. Seeing a newer version would be monumentally stunning and a money maker. Why they never pursued its roots is beyond me
