Steven Spielberg Acquires Michael Crichton's "Micro" Novel

Steven Spielberg Acquires Michael CrichtonSubmit Comment
After bringing Michael Crichton's "Jurassic Park" to the big screen, Steven Spielberg has now announced that he acquired Crichton's "Micro" novel to turn into a feature film through DreamWorks.

The thriller follows a group of graduate students lured to Hawaii to work for a mysterious biotech company — only to find themselves miniaturized and cast out into the rain forest, with nothing but their scientific expertise and wits to protect them.

"Micro" was unfinished when Michael Crichton passed away in 2008, but was later completed by author Richard Preston and published by HarperCollins in 2011. It was a New York Times bestseller and spent over 20 weeks combined on the list in hardcover and paperback.

"We are so pleased to have this opportunity to develop 'Micro,'" said Spielberg. "For Michael, size did matter whether it was for 'Jurassic's' huge dinosaurs or 'Micro's' infinitely tiny humans."

Micro was crap, too, one of Crichton's lesser works, second in sh*t only to Airframe, which was one of the most unreadable works of fiction, ever, and I've read Ulysses and Finnegan's Wake.

The Terminal was solid,doesn't mean it was a great movie,the same goes for 'Munich'.

but everything else this dude has done in the last years - Lincoln,War Horse,The adventures of tintin,Indy 4,War of the worlds,A.I,Amistad,Hook etc.

all sh*t movies,and what's with the dull colors in all of his movies in the last 15 years ? it's almost like watching a black and white movie with some bluish background.

f*cker has lost his mojo and became an oscar bait movie maker for the old critics.

@Rambo

You can't really lump A.I. in there because it was originally going to be the next Stanley Kubrick film following Eyes Wide Shut.

Kubrick and Spielberg were close friends over the years and typically spoke over the phone at least once a week for a few hours.

When Kubrick became ill with his heart issues, he gave Spielberg permission to direct the film instead.

Most of what you see in his version is what was from early pre-production. Most storyboards, editing notes, and so on are mostly unchanged as well as the screen story.

Spielberg even did a decent job emulating Kubrick's dry and stark directing style for the most part.

I always felt that it's a very underrated film and should be given more credit.

Some of my memory of the timeline of the development of A.I. is a bit off but read the production section:
