"Avengers: Age of Ultron" Still Dominating at Box Office

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" Still Dominating at Box OfficeSubmit Comment
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" kept the top spot at the domestic box office this Mother's Day weekend, adding another $77 million to its worldwide total of $875 million. Domestically, the film has slowed down, compared to the original "Avengers" movie, but is performing better overseas. Since the sequel has yet to be released in China and Japan, many insiders believe it has a chance of beating the total gross of "The Avengers," which stands at $1.52 billion.

"Hot Pursuit," starring Reese Witherspoon and Sophia Vergara, landed in second place during its opening weekend. The film earned $13.3 million, below expectations. It is the second-worst nationwide opening for a Witherspoon comedy after "How Do You Know" ($7.5 million). Despite a terrible 6% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, "Hot Pursuit" will likely make back its $35 million budget.

Meanwhile, "Furious 7" is still performing well. While it had to settle for fourth place domestically with $5 million, the total worldwide gross has now reached $.147 billion, which is about $50 million short of beating "The Avengers" and becoming the third biggest film of all time.

On the specialty side, Jack Black's "The D Train" dark comedy was released in 1,009 theaters, but earned $469,000, the fifth-worst opening in history for a film opening between 600 and 2,000 theaters. That's only $465 per theater. "The D Train" has a 43% fresh rating.

Playing in 79 theaters was the "Maggie" zombie thriller, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin. The new movie earned $131,000, which is only $1,658 per theater. It has a 52% fresh rating and is yet another failure for Schwarzenegger.

You're either incredibly lazy or you like f*cking with us. Or you're just a moron. Not sure which at this point. Leaning toward the latter...

Pretty sure at this point Alex would have to be a lot less lazy to even qualify for mere incompetency....

@Tanman

Beyond Thunderdome kinda drags in the 3rd act but the first 2 films are classics.
Deaft0ne writes:

Fury Road is not a reboot, it's the 4th film chronologically.
Tanman32123 writes:

Really, so it'll take place after the 3rd?
Figured it was just a reboot lol
