Today we have the first trailer for "Black Mass," in which Johnny Depp plays the infamous Boston crime boss Whitey Bulger. Check it out below.
Plot: The true story of Whitey Bulger (Depp), the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.
"Black Mass" co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Joel Edgerton, Juno Temple, Corey Stoll, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scott, Jesse Plemons and Peter Sarsgaard. It's set to hit theaters on September 18th.

While this looks amusing from a crime drama perspective, Johnny Depp looks very bizarre in the table scene. He almost looks like a villain from d*ck Tracy. If he acts that hammy throughout the film it will be very distracting.
There is a CNN doc*mentary online about Whitey Bulger and they play several excerpts from phone conversations he has with an interviewer and although he is an absolute murderous sc*mbag, Johnny Depp's manner of speaking in the trailer sounds NOTHING like the real guy.
If the director is trying to go for a metaphorical depiction like Whitey is the personification of evil and the devil incarnate, it comes off as comical in the table scene.
Maybe the movie is intended to be absurd and is a farcical sendup of crime/mob dramas since there have been so many.
Also, Johnny Depp initially turned down this role because he had already been in Donnie Brasco and Blow, 2 other atypical crime/mob dramas.
