Mexico Pays "Spectre" $20 Million to Rewrite Script

Mexico Pays "Spectre" $20 Million to Rewrite ScriptSubmit Comment
Mexico has become known more for drugs, corruption and violence than for anything else. In fact, the war on drugs has claimed more than 100,000 lives since 2006, drastically hurting tourism.

Now comes word that the country has made deal with MGM and Sony, offering up to $20 million in incentives for the studios to rewrite their James Bond film "Spectre" in order to depict positive aspects of Mexico.

Part of the deal is for the film to portray "modern Mexico City buildings," not to cast a Mexican to play the villain, to make an international ambassador the target of an assassination rather than a Mexico City mayor, to depict the Mexican police as a "special force," and to cast a Mexican actress as Bond girl.

Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman was hired as the film's Bond girl, even though she's best known for her role in "Miss Bala," which is set in Mexico's criminal underworld.

The requests made by Mexico go well beyond normal requirements for incentives. But the deal is fantastic for MGM and Sony, which has been looking to cut costs in order to reduce the film's massive $300 million budget.

Meanwhile, few believe that Mexico's $20 million investment will do much to increase tourism. "It might help to improve Mexico's image a little, but if the government really wants a better image, it needs to change the reality and stop mass disappearances and massacres," said Ioan Grillo, an expert on Mexico's drug war.

"Spectre" will begin shooting in Mexico City later this month. It's set to hit theaters on November 6th.

Just wait until you hear the insane demands from other countries being featured in the film. I hear Latveria and Wakanda both demanded real robots and panthers be featured throughout the entire film. In a positive light, of course.

I didnt know Spectre wrote scripts
Deaft0ne writes:
on March 16th, 2015 at 1:52:00 AM

Lol, I guess the producers already accepted the moneys to do this. What they should do is just edit in about 15 minutes of clips from Once Upon A Time In Mexico and call it a day.

So far, the SPECTRE budget stands at $350 million, making it the most expensive film of all time.
TrentReznik writes:
