Ethan Hawke Re-Teams with Denzel Washington for "The Magnificent Seven" RemakeSubmit Comment
Ethan Hawke is re-teaming with his "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua and "Training Day" co-star Denzel Washington for the upcoming "The Magnificent Seven" remake, which also Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Haley Bennett (The Equalizer) on board.

"The Magnificent Seven" is a remake of the 1960 film, which was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic "Seven Samurai." The original version starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn as a group of disparate gunmen who come together to protect a Mexican village from bandits led by Eli Wallach.

The new film will be about a victimized mining town, taken over by a gold baron. The script was originally written by Nic Pizzolatto ("True Detective") and then re-written by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side).

Meh again.

Good cast, but not nearly as good as the original. Kind of blasphemous to have Antoine Fuqua helm it with Denzel in the leading role, too.

Also, The Equalizer >>> John Wick.

Was never big on The Magnificent Seven. It lacked the grit and action of other team-up Westerns like The Professionals and The Wild Bunch while also lacking the scope and story poignancy (not to mention originality) of Seven Samurai.

And Antoine Fuqua has no business in the genre, as he's never outgrown his music video trappings. The only thing inspiring about this is Washington taking up Brynner's lead role.

@Cannon

Totally agree. I swear that Akira Kurosawa makes reading subtitles worth it. Not that you need them. I remember George Lucas saying that during film school they could watch Seven Samurai without the sound and still follow the story pretty well. It's as if the visual part of film seems to be important. That carried over to that great opening shot of Star Wars. Everything you need to know in a 4 second clip. Giant ship bearing down on small ship while blasting the hell out of it. Giant evil empire standing on the neck of the little guy. It's perfect. Versus the prequels which dissolved into two people talking about stuff that has happened instead of actually showing the stuff happen.

Magnificent Seven was an American cash grab the first time around. And now I'm supposed to be OK with Ethan Hawke replacing Steve f*cking McQueen. This will go over about as well as seeing Charleton Heston replaced by Batman in that BatMoses movie.

What classic film can we sh*t on next? Hey we might as well get StarLord to play Indiana Jones in a sh*tty remake.....Jesus Jumping Christ on a cracker......NOOOOOO!!!!
