Spike Lee Says "Selma" Snubbed by Oscars Due to Racism

Spike Lee Says "Selma" Snubbed by Oscars Due to RacismSubmit Comment
Despite the fact that "Selma" was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, there are plenty of people who believe that the film's star David Oyelowo and director Ava DuVernay were not nominated due to racism.

One of those people is big-time *sshole Spike Lee, who cited "Selma" and "Birdman" as his favorite films of 2014. But even though "12 Years a Slave" won the Best Picture Oscar last year, he cautioned that racism is still affecting the opinions of Oscar voters.

"Anyone who thinks this year was gonna be like last year is retarded," said Lee. "There were a lot of black folks up there with '12 Years a Slave,' Steve [McQueen], Lupita [Nyong'o], Pharrell. It's in cycles of every 10 years. Once every 10 years or so I get calls from journalists about how people are finally accepting black films. Before last year, it was the year [in 2002] with Halle Berry, Denzel [Washington], and Sidney Poitier. It's a 10-year cycle. So I don't start doing backflips when it happens."

Nah, because it's a piece of sh*t film. But he had no problem with the 99% fresh on RT.

One-trick *sshole.

I think Spike Lee is just a loud-mouthed little racist troll, and I think that's far more true and apt than Selma getting snubbed because of racism.

Not like H-town doesn't do all they can to suck up to blacks.

Just curious, but how many other black movies were honored with awards? Pretty sure plenty of movie plenty of times.

Dude's nothing but a race-mongering cretin who makes his big money on the very thing he constantly decries.

So basically he's saying that if black films don't win the Oscars every year, Hollywood is racist?

Will someone please kill this motherf*cker!?

@Mink
He totally forgot Crash which pissed off people because it beat te film about two gay cowboys. No one will ever b satisfied. LOL His racism didn't actually used to be this bad. Malcolm X actually made the blacks in his, what was it again Muslim, look like hypocrites. I think as he's gotten older he has just gotten more senile, caught up in his own bullsh*t. He's the only racist I see here.

All the black ppl and white ass-kissers of black ppl are bitching about Selma only getting nominated for Best Picture and Song but Selma was just not that great of a movie.

David Oyelowo was decent as MLK Jr. but the film around him was way too melodramatic and felt like a TNT Original™ movie through and through.

The direction was very overwrought and ham-fisted and everyone else over-acted and was unrealistically making declarations about everything or mini-speeches in nearly every scene.

Also Tom Wilkinson was grossly miscast as LBJ and he was inaccurately portrayed in the film as well.

THOSE are the reasons why it was largely snubbed by the Academy. It's not a great film. It's not even a good one. It's essentially a by-the-numbers drama about the Civil Rights Voting Act that could have been directed by anyone.

The other films this year were simply better. Even other films that were mostly ignored like Nightcrawler, Interstellar, Kill the Messenger, and A Most Violent Year were better than Selma.

Let see....We elected a man president just because he is Black.
That didn't work out too well either.

Cry me a river, Spike lee ! I'm sick and tired of people make everything about race. If you movie wasn't as good as it should have been then it wont win anything.

This guy is such an ass. Screw him, screw Oprah. 12 years a slave sucked ass and it won. Freaking Oscars looked like the dam source awards last year.

The only reason or got the best pic nom and has a 99% is because it's a black pride film. So "here" spike Lee is right, racism is Syu alive in Hollywood, just not the way he says it. Which is why this self centered piece of sh*t film, just like 12 years, got rave reviews.and wtf I'd the deal with brad pitt making black movie street black movie. He really wants to win Oscars and thinks this the best way I guess, which apparently is working.

Over all black people need to make more movies. Stop waiting for a role. And their are a million stories that can be told other then the same civil right heros over and over again. Look at Marcus Garvey he was greater than King but hardly anybody knows about him
