Scarlett Johansson to Star in "Ghost in the Shell"Submit Comment
Thanks to films like "The Avengers" and "Lucy," Scarlett Johansson has become an action star. And Variety is now reporting that the actress has taken the lead in the new action film, "Ghost in the Shell," based on the popular Japanese anime.

The film has Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) on board to direct from a script by Bill Wheeler (The Hoax). It has yet to be greenlit, but with Johansson's addition, it's starting to look like "Ghost in the Shell" will be made.

The story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.

Weill there goes any hope for that film...

Oh and before anyone says it...Lucy was f*cking terrible and downright stupid.

ScarJo simply cannot act, and Ghost in the Shell deserves a hell of a lot more than an actress who gets by on the number of times young men shoot a load in honor of her internet nude photos.

^^Scarlett's idea of acting in Lucy was to constantly twitch her head to the sides like a bird while reciting answers from a kid's quiz. All while the director attempted to half-heartedly make us believe she was a superhuman Einstein because her character swallowed Ecstacy or whatever. f*cking atrocious film. Not to mention Scarlett is hopelessly awkward during fight scenes in any film.

I won't even get into the merits of Lucy, suffice to say I thought it was breezy-mind-trippy fun and a hell of a lot more visually impressive than Nolan's Interstellar.

Regardless, profits don't lie. The movie did gangbusters at the world wide box office and, regardless of what some think of her acting talents, Johansson proved her marketability.

I'd much prefer a Japanese actress in the role but if they're gonna go Hollywood, Johansson should work fine. I imagine they'll whip her into shape and makeup the rest with stuntwork/CGI.

It's not like Kusanagi ever did anything physically realistic in those animes, anyway.

That being said, I'm still not holding my breath on this being greenlit in the first place. It's already been in development hell for some ten years.

"Regardless, profits don't lie."

Absolutely true.

That's why Transformers 1,2,3,4 were quintessential cinematic breakthroughs of the highest caliber and quality. Along with Star Wars: Episode I and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Lucy definitely earned its rightful place among fine films such as those.

Lucy was a great movie you haters don't understand what a good movie is but that's ok because i hear transformers 5 is coming out so you got that to look forward to and ghost in the shell has the potential to be a good movie

Lucy started brilliantly but after 30-40 became really stupid and idiotic. 5/10 in my book.

As long there is a scar-jo nude scene, then count me in.

Her best movie was Spongbob Squarpants!
I dare you to tell me better, f*cking try it.

I actually liked her performance and just plain looking at her in the Island.

Wonder if Rupert will try and bone her.
