Ethan Hawke Says He Was Almost Marvel's "Doctor Strange"

Ethan Hawke Says He Was Almost MarvelSubmit Comment
Before a director was announced, there were plenty of rumors about which actor will star in Marvel's "Doctor Strange." Ethan Hawke's name kept coming up, especially after it was revealed that his "Sinister" director was hired.

The job eventually went to Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness). But in a new interview with Hawke, the actor mentioned that he was definitely in talks for the role and came "as close as anybody could" to getting the title role.

Hawke went on to say that he would be interested in one day joining the Marvel team. "Thereís a tremendous amount of salesmanship that's now really important to a studio like that. Itís a tremendous amount of time in your life where you're working and you're not acting. We're living in the age of Marvel... They're making movies at a high rate, and they're making them successfully. I'm totally open to doing something like that."

Almost counts for nothing. Not a damned thing.

That's the measure of this guy's success: he was almost someone who matters in a film that matters. Instead he'll have to settle for a cameo reprisal of his Taking Lives character in a VOD sequel to that film next year.

But hey, Getaway is almost as good...

Everyone in Hollywood was "almost" this or that. Everyone has the same story so its not even worth telling unless you're drunk trying to pick up easy bimbos.

Btw, Ethan's last movie about time travelling transvestites and a Jodie Foster look-alike was absoutely pointless.

Ethan Hawke is fantastic. You're all dumb.

WTF Mink? what about the Before films? or Gattaca? Even Daybreakers wax excellent for what it was.

Everything Hawke has done with Linklater has been top drawer. Boyhood was a great film.

I am a fan of Ethan Hawke. With that said I think c*mberbatch will make a better Dr. Strange. I would rather see Hawke doing theater and writing.
