George Clooney Lied About Sending "The Interview" Petition to Film Studios?

George Clooney Lied About Sending "The Interview" Petition to Film Studios?Submit Comment
After George Clooney found out that Sony Pictures was bullied into canceling the release of "The Interview," he and his CAA agent Bryan Lourd put together a letter in support of Sony, hoping that heads of all major studios and agencies would sign.

The letter states: "This is not just an attack on Sony. It involves every studio, every network, every business and every individual in this country. That is why we fully support Sony's decision not to submit to these hackers' demands. We know that to give in to these criminals now will open the door for any group that would threaten freedom of expression, privacy and personal liberty."

Clooney then told Deadline the bad news... no one signed the letter. "[The petition] was sent to basically the heads of every place. They told Bryan Lourd, 'I can't sign this.' What? How can you not sign this? I'm not going to name anyone, that's not what I'm here to do, but nobody signed the letter."

It turns out that Clooney wasn't being very truthful. The Hollywood Reporter reached out to the heads of Disney, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros, Lionsgate, WME, UTA and countless other companies, and all said that they were completely unaware of the letter.

"I never heard of it until I saw press about a petition not getting signed," said one studio head, who asked to remain anonymous. "No one I know has heard of it. Of course, we would've signed it, but we had never heard of it, and these were a lot of high-level industry people."

Who cares?

So basically Clooney says someone did something and the recipients of that something say they didn't receive anything.

Okay. Maybe Clooney is lying, but I doubt it. Depends on who operated as the middle man between him and the heads of the studios. He might be lying. Or just mistaken. Either way, again I ask, who cares?

@ Minkowski, obviously YOU care since you made two comments about it. You freaking turd.
