Theaters Refusing to Show "The Interview," Sony Cancels Premiere, Press and Release

Theaters Refusing to Show "The Interview," Sony Cancels Premiere, Press and ReleaseSubmit Comment
The same group that hacked into Sony Pictures and leaked lots of emails and documents, has now made a threat to anyone who was planning to see the studio's "The Interview" comedy, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

The threat states: "Warning. We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places The Interview be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to. Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you'd better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY."

Soon after, movie theaters across the country started canceling showings of the film. And then came word that all major theater chains decided not to show the movie. And now, Sony Pictures has officially cancelled the December 25th release, stating that it understands that theater owners want to protect movie-goers from any potential attack.

It's not clear what the plan for "The Interview" will be, but there will likely be a VOD release to recoup the $42 million budget, plus all tens of millions of dollars spent on marketing. At this point, Sony is no longer promoting the movie and has cancelled all promotions, including a premiere and interviews.

"stating that it understands that theater owners want to protect movie-goers from any potential attack."

Bullsh*t. Attackers are nerds. They're not murderers. The only people being protected with this move are the moneymakers who would lose out if the hackers decided to do to the theater owners what they did to Sony. This is CYA, plain and simple. North Korea has no way to project physical violence into American theaters.

Release the damned thing onto Youtube and piss the hackers right the f*ck off. Or cave in like bitches.

Goddamned useless auto-correct on this pos phone.

Hackers. Not attackers. But in this case, they're both.

Anyway it's no big loss, and it's pretty goddamned pathetic on both ends of the spectrum here

Once the VOD release is on torrent sites, everyone will watch it for free and see how awful it is and wonder what all the fuss was about.

The upside to this is hopefully the theaters that would have shown The Interview will instead show American Sniper and Inherent Vice earlier than their nationwide Jan 9th release dates.

Mostly sounds like their "threat" is more them just saying that the movie is a threat to those whom watch it cause it will be so awful. And that the movie will be a psychologist that to people, not that of threatening physical violence.

Can't blame Sony for pulling out. Three of the biggest chains won't release it. Other chains will cost them too much for the attendance that they will get from them.

Sony hackers threaten 9/11-style terror attacks at theaters showing 'The Interview'

http://www.aol.com/article/2014/12/16/sony-hackers-threaten-9-11-style-terror-attacks-on-theaters-showing-the-interview/21117140/

The Sony cyber attacks have taken a dark turn -- the hackers are now threatening a terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11.

The Guardians of Peace (GOP) have threatened mass-scale terror attacks against theaters showing "The Interview," a Sony film starring Seth Rogen and James Franco that satirizes the assassination of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.

The threats were disseminated from a message left on filesharing services that contain links to the leaked doc*ments, according to BuzzFeed.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bosses of Sony got personal threats and this is probably one of the untold reasons why they cancelled the release.

It is beyond me why anyone would want to provoke this little twerp from North Korea.

He is a despotic maniac, and VERY dangerous.

As we should have all learned: It's better to not poke the bear.
