Edgar Wright Unveils His Top 10 Favorite Films of 2014

Edgar Wright Unveils His Top 10 Favorite Films of 2014Submit Comment
In a new interview with Esquire magazine, director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) spoke about his favorite movies from this year. His biggest complaint was that there were too many blockbuster franchises that lack originality.

Wright put together a list of his top ten films from 2014. The list doesn't contain any superhero movies, even though he was close to directing his own superhero film, "Ant-Man." There are, however, several big studio movies, like "Edge of Tomorrow" and "Interstellar."

Check out his full list below, in no particular order.

* Boyhood

* The Grand Budapest Hotel

* Birdman

* Snowpiercer

* Interstellar

* Nightcrawler

* Under the Skin

* The Lego Movie

* Whiplash

* Edge of Tomorrow

At least he was original and didn't list Interstellar first like most people.

Interstellar, Grand Budapest Hotel and Under my Skin were truly great films, imo, but Snowpiercer was a little on the silly, unwatchable side and Edge of Tomorrow was derivative physically-violent science fiction led by an aging Cruise. Wouldn't include them on my own list, but I certainly respect Wright's choices.

Here's to hoping Ant Man is the success Guardians of the Galaxy was.

Only one of those made my list: Under the Skin

What no Guardian of the Galaxy? Great!!! So tired of people hyping that extremely mediocre film. Most overrated film of the last 5 yrs imo.

From the ones I've seen from this list :

Boyhood - 4/10
Snowpiercer - 8.5/10
Under The Skin - 2/10
Edge of Tomorrow - 6/10

Okay, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" was a little gem: funny and original. Ralph Fiennes is truly a great actor unlike his silly brother.

Nightcrawler was really good. Bill Paxton needs to be in more movies.
Sleuth1989 writes:

@BadChad
Paxton was in Nightcrawler? I still need to see it. He's had a good couple years in films. He was also in "Edge of Tomorrow" this year too which was definitely one of the best sci-fi films of the year.

TGBH really blew !
Never gonna watch Intersteller or Boyhood.
-And those LEGO movies, really fon't see what all the fuzz is about....sh*tty humor !?!
Edge of tomorrow was a fun popcorn-flick, Snowpiercer was alright, nothing more !!
Looking foreward to Nightcrawler and Birdman !!

..and by the way, Under the skin is one of the worst pieces of garbage I ever watched :(
lawman writes:

Snowpiercer was great and Edge of Tomorrow wasnt bad at all. Fagkowski can eat a d*ck. After hes done with the one hes most certainly currently working on of course.
Deaft0ne writes:

@lawman

Fink is a highly-trained c*ckmonger and nothing more.

Edge of Tomorrow was great. Under the Skin was so painful to sit through that I "watched" it at double-speed!

Snowpiercer was awesome as well. I have yet to see TGBH but I don't really like Wes Anderson films.

Sleuth- yea Bill has a good performance. Jake is creepy as f*ck.

Quidd writes:

Boyhood - So f*cking boring

TGBH - One of the most bloated self-indulged films I've seen

Birdman - Great showcase for Keaton

Interstellar - Boyhood + TGBH

Nightcrawler - Probably the best film of the year imo, though slow at times.

Lego Movie - Funny but too silly and unintelligent to compare to other animated films.

Edge of Tomorrow - Cool film, great action, horrible third act

Margot Robbie is a dead ringer for Harley Quinn sans makeup so i'm sure she will be good in the part. Jared Leto for The Joker is not bad either.

Obviously the major part of his casting is the inevitable solo Batfleck film vs. Leto's Joker.

A straight adaptation of The Killing Joke would be cool.

f*ck those 'avengers' wannabe box office greedy movies.
Serpico1988 writes:

Boyhood was my favorite film of the year

THE RAID part 2
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Snowpiercer
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Cold in July
John Wick
Interstellar

i haven't seen Gone Girl, Nightcrawler or Birdman yet.

Julianne Moore is 54 years old and I would still do her

to begin with , the guy is actually dedicated to his craft. Very good method actor

secondly his laughter is good enough for the role so i guess im happy with him being cast
Papillon writes:

@Proper

Lol, thanks mate!

Leto is crazy enough by nature so I think he'll fit perfectly the character. Just have a look at his dressing code.
