"Dumb and Dumber To" Takes First Place at Box Office with $38 MillionSubmit Comment
"Dumb and Dumber To," starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, took first place at the domestic box office with $38 million, making it Carrey's biggest live-action debut since "Bruce Almighty" ($70 million) more than a decade ago, as well as Daniels' biggest ever.

Twenty years ago, the original film opened to $16 million and went on to earn almost $250 million worldwide on a budget of only $17 million. The sequel cost $40 million and has a good chance of becoming a big hit. It has a 27% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

Marvel's animated "Big Hero 6" settled for second place with $36 million, bringing its worldwide total to $148 million, which is still short of the $165 million budget. Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" took third place with $29.2 million. Its total is now $322 million, almost double its $165 million budget.

The other new wide release of the weekend was "Beyond the Lights" romance drama, which landed in fourth place with $6.5 million. The new movie is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees) and cost $7 million. It has an 84% fresh rating.

On the specialty side, "Foxcatcher," starring Channing Tatum and Steve Carell, grossed $288,113 from 6 theaters for an impressive average of $48,019. It has an 83% fresh rating. "The Homesman," starring Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank, opened to $48,033 from 4 theaters for a decent average of $12,033. It has a 79% fresh rating. And finally, Jon Stewart's directorial debut "Rosewater," struggled. It grossed $1.2 million from 371 theaters, but has a good 74% fresh rating.

Wow what a surprise because if the movie bombed carrey would of pulled a Robin Williams

Terrible movie, not even remotely in the same league as the first one, which wasn't/isn't nearly as funny as people claim.

Judge should have made a good sequel to Office Space instead.

@bando

Would have*^

And Robin Williams committed suicide because of Lewy Body Dementia, a condition stemming from Parkinson's Disease.

Jim Carrey does not suffer from the condition so your 'joke' is in incredibly poor taste.

@fink

What the f*ck are you blathering about you useless sh*tbird? Mike Judge did not write and direct Dumb & Dumber nor this sequel.

Are you seriously that f*cking inept or just terrible at trolling?

@Alex: one measly article? Don't overtax yourself, buddy.

Anyway, this is pretty much the end of both their careers, not that either had much going on. Carrey might catch a bit more mainstream studio work, but it'll fall even more flat than his previous oeuvres thus signifying to even the dumb and dumbest of audience members that he has little to nothing left to offer out this train-wrecked museum of over-rated 90's cinematic comedic styles.

Good night, Carrey, and thanks for the fish.

@fink

Alex has historically posted just the box office update on Sunday nights for quite a long time now.

Another indicator that you are a f*cking imposter because the real minkowski would know this and not bitch about it.

^He definitely would have known that. But also he prolly would have still complained. Deaft is on fire

Well Carrey has gone thru some depression.and his career has been In the sh*tter for years.that incredible Burt wonderstone movie bombed and the best thing he had probably done in a while was that kickass 2 cameo.

Still even if Robin Williams had all those conditions suicide is not the way out.and he will not go to heaven as well as Tony Scott.
Seriously fink/stink/mink is still here and now he's being a sensitive c*nt because alex banned him.his p*ssy still has sand in it.

Sin City 2 was mediocre at best. The coolest part is seeing Marv again.

There will never be a 3rd one so enjoy it for what it is.

Being a #1 at top box office doesn't mean sh*t if the movie won't pass the break-even point.
