"Captain America: Civil War" Story Details Revealed

"Captain America: Civil War" Story Details RevealedSubmit Comment
We recently heard that Robert Downey Jr will reprise his Tony Stark/Iron Man role in the upcoming third "Captain America" film, called "Captain America: Civil War." Marvel has now confirmed the story, adding lots more details.

The "Civil War" storyline pits Stark against Captain America as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with super-human abilities to register themselves with the US government and agree to serve as part of a new police force. Stark supports the program, but Captain America does not, believing that it threatens the civil liberties of US citizens. Rogers and others opposing the act are forced to go on the run.

The comic book that the film is based on includes Spider-Man and other masked superheroes, which is why the US government wants to know who's behind the mask. According to Marvel head Kevin Feige, "secret identities aren't as important in [this] version of the story."

He added: "I donít want to give too much away, but something happens. It has made the governments of the world say 'we need to have some oversight of these guys. They need to report to somebody, rather than 'you have to take off your mask.' It's not about the secret identity thing, as much as it is about, overall, who reports to who, and who can agree to oversight committee. Because as of now, in 'Avengers 2,' there is no more security council, there is no SHIELD. Stark is paying for it, Captain America is running it, and things occur that will make governments begin to question."

"Civil War," which is set to hit theaters on May 6th, 2016, will force Stark to turn on the rest of the Avengers and become a possible villain. The movie will also be the first time that we'll see Chadwick Boseman in his Black Panther costume.

Check out the photos from the presentation below, showing Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans pretending to fight each other.

Interesting. Not a fan of Marvel nor the Civil War series as I don't read comic books, but this departure seems like a mature and compelling divergence from the standard staid formula of Avengers against big ugly alien/monster.

Now if only Marvel had the rights to that which Sony and Fox own, this wculd be a truly historic series for comic book movies.

Personally, I don't care, but there are kids who do, apparently.

@Mink

For that to happen, Marvel to get back the rights from Sony/Fox, what sort of money or deal would we be talking here?!

for Minkowski,

Given there is no actual villain in the film... but don't you reckon a plot without a single entity in antagonistic form might leave the overall film a little weak, especially if it is to be Rogers' final outing as a hero?

not that I find "ugly alien/ monsters" appealing myself however im more keen on closing in on how you would rather have it, if given a choice [i get why you don't give a sh*t]

I can see it now. Some old fat f*ck is telling the heroes, "you people need some sort of oversight." RDJ immediately slips into his Tropic Thunder voice and replies, "what do you mean, you people?? Now we up in the big league. Gettin our turn at bat. As long as we together, it's you and me baby, and there aint nothin wrong with that."
