"The Mummy" Reboot to Follow Navy SEAL in Iraq?Submit Comment
Universal Pictures recently announced that it's rebooting "The Mummy," which will be part of an expanded universe featuring the studio's classic monsters. "The Mummy" will be directed by Alex Kurtzman and is set to hit theaters on June 24th, 2016.

Superhero Movies News now claims that they got their hands on the script and revealed a spoiler-free opening scene, which is set in modern day. The site went on to say that the movie ties into the end credits scene in "Dracula Untold."

Opening scene: "The story follows Navy SEAL Tyler Colt and his mission in the Iraqi desert to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker. To him and his team's surprise the terrorists within the bunker turn out be nothing more then some grave robbers who have all magically died. Upon entering the bunker Tyler and his team also succumb to some mystical forces out of their control. They soon realize the bunker they have infiltrated is actually a centuries old tomb."

"Mayhem erupts as all the Navy SEAL members start turning on one another and are captivated by the forces within the tomb. Tyler is the only one to make it all the way deep within the tomb alive to find a black iron sarcophagus. It's marked with Egyptian symbols like the Ankh and Eye of Horus. Here Tyler is entranced by the forces to open up and release what is inside. But after placing his hand onto the sarcophagus he is immediately stabbed in the palm with a star shaped symbol. From then on, his mind is cursed with visions of Ashurbanipal, King of Assyria... The Mummy."

Kurtzman? Of Orci and Kurtsman fame? *puke*. I like the original. The right mix of violence and comedy and Fraser was great as the hero. Vosloo as the bad guy was also quite nice.

This, this will be just a lame reboot as part of a series to make a sh*tload of money.

The original was watchable 90s campish fare and all three featured Rachel Weisz, if you can remember who she once was.

*Kurtzman.

The third Mummy film did not feature Weisz, unfortunately. Instead of doing the smart thing and gracefully killing her character off, they recast the role with Maria Bello who, is a fine actress, just not for that part.
I think making the characters marines is a bit too real. They need to be something crazy if they're gonna be "hunting" or killing mummies.

@iamveryppwerful

Yeah I couldnt agree with you more. That was the main thing that bothered me about mummy 3. They really should have killed her character off or wrote in the script that she split off and was doing something different.

Maria bello is a decent actress but her and Brandon fraiser didn't have the same chemistry at all. I would have digged a solo mummy film with just Brandon fraisers character. I don't kno why they had to try and bring the whole family back together.

The guy that starred in all the mummies. He was in bedazzled, monkey bone, inkheart, airheads, school ties, journey to the center of the earth, dudley do right, blast from the past, George of the jungle, encino man

My guess he's about 6 feet and he has brown hair.

Oh he was also in crash, Looney tunes back in action, the air I breathe, he also had a small roll in GI Joe rise of the cobra because it was directed by Stephen sommers who also directed the first two mummy films.
