"John Carter" Reboot in the Works, Disney Not Involved

"John Carter" Reboot in the Works, Disney Not InvolvedSubmit Comment
Over the years, there have been many attempts to turn Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter of Mars" into a feature film. Then in 2012, Disney took on that challenge and invested a whopping $250 million to make it happen.

Worldwide, the film grossed $280 million, but when you factor in all the expenses, Disney admitted that it lost over $100 million. So despite the fact that there was a plan for many more "John Carter" installments, the studio decided to abandon the franchise and simply return the rights back to Burroughs' company.

Now comes word from Edger Rice Burroughs Inc that it is "seeking a new studio to continue this seminal sci-fi adventure as chronicled in the eleven 'Mars' novels Burroughs wrote." That's right, the plan is to make another "John Carter" movie. Stay tuned.

Don't give a sh*t.

After the historical bomb of the Disney film, why the f*ck would anyone want to take on anything even remotely approaching John Carter? I know there's a sh*tload of material there in all the books, but the name is f*cking tainted forever, and let's face it: people know Mars is an arid wasteland. Better to remake it on another planet...but then that's why we have Avatar.

Stupid *ssholes.

I won't be seeing it.

You might as well make it R rated then!

What's the worst that could happen?

1. Don't cast Taylor Kitsch.

2. Put "Mars" back in the title where it belongs.

3. Completely redefine the look of what should be an otherworldly realm, Frazetta-style, with darkly magenta skies, planetary constellations, alien desert geography and all manner of expressionistic weirdism ...instead of just shooting the whole thing in f*cking Utah.

4. Like Papillon said, and in tandem with No. 3, go for an R-rating, because the last movie simply reminded me how much more awesome Burroughs' edgier, pulpy-macho content would have been sans the neutered Disney approach.

5. Don't cast Taylor Kitsch. The character of John Carter isn't some goddamn Abercrombie & Fitch heartthrob—he's a genuine dude. A Man's Man. Look at it this way: the ideal actor to have played the part 30 years ago would have been Scott Glenn. Go for someone like that.

Now it's obvious this "Minkowski" is an imposter because the real guy absolutely loved the John Carter movie and defended it's honor in every f*cking thread it was mentioned in prior, during, and after it's release.

He would tear anyone a new one that said anything even slightly derogatory about it.

I agree with Cannon.

LOL! Good one Cannon. And I also agree with you.

Good post mate.

@Deaft0ne
I told you that months ago when he trashed on Liam Neeson who he f*cking adored as the only actor he consistently likes. LOL

@everyone
I said the original was pretty decent but if they are going to reboot it...

@Cannon
You are right. Make an R-rated, adventure film with a man's man, a better realized visual world. My only request is keep that outfit design for the main female. I was okay with that one. LOL

JOHN CARTER was good
Deaft0ne writes:

@cress

Yeah I liked John Carter for what it was, and even though it influenced Star Wars, Dune, and a lot of other stories and films, the design of the film felt derivative because all those other movies got made first.

I wonder how well a reboot will even do if it won't even look original. Jupiter Ascending is another one and that sh*t is going to bomb HARD!

who are we to deny...this title has a great story, would be nice to see a well thought up and truthfully inspiring R-rated reboot...and the original title sounds a lot better
